While the Green Party took a pro-choice stance in the referendum, Cllr Healy said he had taken a personal decision as a matter of conscience to vote no. He said the issue occasionally came up on the doorstep with voters and he had been upfront about his decision whenever he was asked about it but he had not sought support for his views. “I have never been involved in campaigning on either side of the referendum,” he said. “It’s not part of my election campaign,” he added. He said he accepted the outcome of the referendum and had agreed that, if elected, he would support his party’s position in relation to issues such as legislating for exclusion zones around heath facilities offering abortion services. Cllr Healy is one of the Greens’ longest serving public representatives, having first been elected a councillor in 1991 and serving until 1999. He served again from 2004 to 2009 and regained a seat again last year. Online Editors Read more: Independent.ie

Airlines 'easy target' for green activists - IAG - Independent.ieAirlines are an 'easy target' for environmental activists and the industry needs to work together to address concerns, according to the chief financial officer of Aer Lingus owner IAG, All green activists should be arrestedon the spot and given 5 years Immigrants 'easy target' for right wing politicians. Workers 'easy target' for revenue commissioner. Everyone has a target, someone you can blame for the problem, someone to make a sacrificial lamb.

Why is he being hounded about. Feminism doesn't have a monopoly on the right to life. U can be green and pro life. Hes committed wrong think and must be excommunicated And? Good for him. Odious and ominous development in multi-culti Ireland Why is this news? Did he step out of line by voting no? That old nugget.

Slow news day lads? So what? is scraping the bottom of the barrel here again in typical fashion. Obviously hoping that David Healy would get lynched by the right-thinking, left-leaning, tolerant/liberal majority 1 out of 3 people did. Why is it headline news? Politician with a conscience ? I suppose it had to happen someday !

His entitled to his opinion. What a scoop

I’m glad that the councillor is prolife. However I’m disappointed that he would support the Greens on enforcing exclusion zones. And? Diversity of everything except the diversity of thought. You cant flush a baby wipe down the toilet, but you can flush a baby Oh that will not go down with the 'liberal' electorate. Imagine someone thinking for himself and not towing the party line.

Dislike the Greens but its a sign of a functioning Democratic party when their spokesman can vote no in the abortion referendum against the i dare say majority of their grass roots supporters and not be sanctioned. He is still the greens Party candidate... Is that a crime? Good on him Oh what a naughty boy , the femi-nazis won’t like that !

Quick cancel him, how can he show such lack of progressive attitudes and still be green? So what? He is entitled to any view he wants. Greeners voters vote Yes to Congestion Charges, Carbon Tax, Water Charges!
