.jrobertsonmp on Hobart’s plastic ban: It can be done, and I think if we’re going to be serious about plastic and how it’s now getting into the food chain, we’re going to have to make some tough decisions. MORE: PMLive

Hobart has become the first capital city in the nation to ban single-use plastics, including takeaway food containers and straws. City of Hobart councillors voted on Monday night in favour of a by-law to support the ban and impose fines on those that don't comply.

Food retailers will need to provide compostable products from December 2020 or face on-the-spot fines exceeding $300, which increases to $1,300 if prosecuted. The increased costs to businesses, which is estimated to be between eight to 12 cents more per container, is expected to be passed on to consumers.

The lunatics are running the asylum

Good.

See how Chinese takeaway restaurants survive 🍤🍜🥢🥡

What a bunch of idiots. Typical fruit-loop ideologues have control over the city. Soon they will demand it in every city. We must resist these lunatics and refuse to give them the ability to change or create laws.
