According to the data, Australia’s economic growth will slow by up-to-two per cent if it stays in the global agreement. However, according to the study’s authors, the benefits of reducing global emissions offsets the short-term benefits of unilaterally withdrawing from the Paris Accord.
The Paris Agreement was signed by 197 countries and is designed to stabilise greenhouse gas emissions at a level that would avoid dangerous climate change. Some conservative politicians, including prominent Liberal backbencher Craig Kelly, has urged Australia to pull out of the agreement, which came into effect in 2016.
