A political stunt by The Greens to fly a hot air over Parliament House in the name of climate change came crashing to a halt after CASA issued an air-traffic ban.

A CASA spokesman told 2600 the application to ban the balloon was lodged last week and came into effect on Saturday.“It was about responding to a risk of aviation activities around parliament that could have put people at risk. The balloon was part of this. Greens leader Richard Di Natale was unimpressed with the flight ban and accused the Morrison government political interference.

“I spend a couple of weeks in parliament house and I feel demoralised that government’s refusing to act and then seeing the energy, enthusiasm, passion and commitment of young people collectively saying, ‘enough is enough’ – that’s what’s going to change things.”
