Scott Morrison has defended his government’s “immediate action” drought response plan in an address to rural leaders overnight.

“Right now for our nation my immediate focus and priority is on dealing with and responding to the devastating drought,” Mr Morrison said in a speech to the National Farmers Federation’s 40th-anniversary gala dinner. “Unfortunately, Australia remains without a national energy policy or national drought policy,” Ms Simson said.But the prime minister on Monday evening backed in the Coalition’s plan and cautioned no drought response could make it rain.
