Police officers took around eight minutes to start CPR on a man found unresponsive - having failed to check for signs of life when they arrived - an inquest into his death heard.
PCs Samantha Ogden and Scott Higginson were with student officer Stacey Jamieson, the court heard. As the scene was secured, police switchboard operators called back the person who earlier dialled 101. Mr Curless sadly died there days later. Body-worn camera footage played in court showed the moment police arrived at the scene and failing to check for a pulse or other signs of life.
Officer Jamieson earlier told the court she started her training during the pandemic and had completed most of her training online. Many modules didn't have a way to test knowledge once completed. Ms Morris, recording a conclusion of suicide, said 'GMP should have known that there was a real risk to life' and that officers 'failed to take steps to preserve life'.
"We respect the findings made by the coroner today and acknowledge the comments made concerning officer training. GMP follows national training guidelines and strives to deliver outstanding service for victims and their families.
