In some part, the overreaction observed in Victoria has come because the government “is so humiliated” by the bungling of its quarantine which allowed the virus to get a second run in the state says Sky News host Chris Kenny.

“If we were wondering why Daniel Andrews has cracked down so hard in Victoria, why Melburnians are paying such a hard price, there are likely to be a range of factors that are ideological, personal and political," Mr Kenny said. However, he said “there's every chance Victoria might be experiencing what the rest of us face some time down the track”.

“The lesson we need to learn from Victoria is not about quarantine or contact tracing … the lesson we need to learn is that we must not - except in the most dire circumstances - overreact to outbreaks with a police state mentality”. "Because the brutal truth is that without a vaccine, it is an inescapable fact that outbreaks, illnesses and fatalities will happen, sooner or later".

Overreaction? It needed to react better from the start. Now it quite rightly is attempting to flatten the curve/spike. Lets hope it does and then does not stop to early. Other states managed to do it 👍

I apologise for this article.

yes, it is rather humiliating for the federal government.

The whole fucking COVID19 catastrophe has been caused by MORRISON DUTTON BERIJIKLIAN !!!! They let the diseased ship disembark!!! To let MORRISONS HILLSONG BUDDIES OFF !!! Premium Andrews should be PRIME MINISTER!!

The 'investigative reporters' on SKY would not want to spread disinformation – Murdoch's credibility would be at stake.

Trying to address the 19 odd Victorian’s dying per day is an over reaction? Yup, makes sense

How is trying to keep people alive an 'overreaction'? Please elaborate.

The classic complete fuck up of an operation that would've been better performed by a penguin...

Until Kenny starts attacking the ScottMorrisonMP govt with this much fervor on sportsrorts grassgate watergate Bushfirefunds Covidcabinet robotebt agedcare Mediaraids Rubyprincess Towkegate & the rest, nobody with an IQ that's hit double digits will take him seriously.

Victoria records second consecutive deadliest day with 19 new deaths | Sky News AustraliaVictoria has recorded its second consecutive deadliest day since the beginning of the pandemic, with 19 new deaths and 331 new cases in the past 24 hours. \n\nMr Andews said 14 of the 19 new fatalities were linked to the state’s troubled aged care sector. \n\nHe also revealed another 100 “mystery cases”, totaling 2903 cases with an unknown source in the state. \n\nThe Premier also said the state’s hardship payment – which has already been made to more than 24,000 eligible businesses - would double from $5,000 to $10,000. \n Thankfully we have locked off the border in Queensland. Hopefully we can keep this out of Queensland and avoid the death and economic damage. Fear mongering , fake , fony and false clickbait BS. Let the left believe what they want. It doesnt change the fact that these numbers are paid for in aged care and hospitals. 25k for Covid on a death certificate. 9k for families who agree. Hope MSM goes down soon! a few weeks back Allan Jones went on air and claimed like an idiot that the COVID was a hoax ...lol

Edward ‘Teddy’ Sheean made a ‘remarkable’ sacrifice | Sky News AustraliaAustralian War Memorial Director Matthew Anderson says it’s clear World War II veteran Edward ‘Teddy’ Sheean made a remarkable sacrifice which is why he deserves his recommendation for the Victoria Cross – the nation’s highest award.\n\nOn December 1, 1942, Mr Sheean’s ship, the HMAS Armidale, was attacked by more than a dozen aircraft, a torpedo and a bomb, prompting an abandon ship order. \n\n“The last sighting of him was as the ship went down, still strapped to his gun, firing at the Japanese aircraft,” Mr Anderson told Sky News.\n\n“It wasn’t even his primary job, I mean he wasn’t the guy normally manning the gun; he was a loader, he was the guy that made sure the ammunition was stacked and wrapped and placed into the gun.\n\n“He was just doing something that he knew he had to do to save the lives of those of his shipmates who were in the water and being strafed.\n\n“Teddy Sheean’s case is unique, I mean he quite clearly did something remarkable, and the system, the government, the people his shipmates, the Royal Australian Navy, the ADF knew he did something remarkable and indeed honoured him.\n\n“The Collins-class submarine that was named after Teddy Sheean is the first time an ordinary seaman has been so honoured by the Royal Australian Navy.”\n Teddy would be sacrificed today if it was up to the Liberals and their Sky news sycophants. As Bolt said whats a few dead old people compared to the need to open the economy. Disgusting hair clogs; deciding who should live or die. Fake patriots. To the Tip with you! Does this have anything to do with the Canberra War Memorial the everybody keeps complaining about? Cant believe it’s taken this long!

Hospitality industry lobbies for rent relief amid COVID crisis | Sky News AustraliaThe Australian Hotels Association is lobbying for state governments to allow pubs, cafes and other venues with a turnover under $50 million to defer paying rent for up to another six months. \n\nSky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell said the industry was concerned many outlets wouldn't be able to pay rent any time soon due to the COVID-19 crisis. \n\n“Essentially, Scott Morrison got agreement earlier in the year from the states through National Cabinet for them to agree to a code of conduct which allowed commercial premises to defer their rents until September or October, depending on which state it is,” Mr Clennell said. \n\n“Under this arrangement, as it has been explained to me, if a business was down to 20 per cent of its business because of COVID restrictions, it would be up for 20 per cent of its rent with 40 per cent deferred and another 40 per cent wiped by the landlord. \n\n“There is no guarantee that, most likely apart from Victoria, that this form of deferral\u002Fassistance will be retained. \n\n“Some venues from September\u002FOctober will be hard up paying their monthly rent, let alone their deferred rent. '\n\nMr Clennell said the AHA was urging state and federal governments to ensure this rent relief continued until the JobKeeper program ends next year. Shouldn't the world start at making the world bank defer repayments. Better still wipe all debt and close down And who bails out the landlords or covers their costs? If they're going to stay on lockdown per Gov't orders, let them not pay for 6 months.

WWII sailor 'Teddy' Sheean recommended for VC | Sky News AustraliaWorld War II veteran Edward ‘Teddy’ Sheean has been recommended to receive the nation’s highest honour for a service man or woman for his exemplary actions in 1942. \n\nTasmanian sailor Teddy Sheean saved the lives of some of his shipmates in 1942 after ignoring orders to abandon an Australian minesweeper which had come under heavy Japanese fire. \n\nThe 18-year-old was able to bring down one plane and damage two more before dying strapped to his weapon.\n\nPrime Minster Scott Morrison announced today that a report issued by a recent Tribunal Review into the matter had found Sheean to be an eligible recipient for the Victoria Cross.\n\nA previous attempt to recognise Sheean was heavily criticised as his actions were not seen to be worthy of a VC. \n\nMr Morrison said the report found “compelling new evidence in support for high recognition for Sheean”. \n\n“That Sheehan was done a substantial injustice in consideration of his actions in the original decision making period in 1942 to 1943,” he said. \n\nThe Prime Minister said he submitted the recommendation to the Governor General and the matter was now before Her Majesty the Queen. \n\n“We will be hopeful for what will come back as a contented response from Her Majesty,” he said. \n\n“Any ambiguity that existed before, or that had been allowed to prevail by acting hastily, that could have undermined the recommendation that we have made.\n\n“So I can now make this recommendation confidently on the basis of the process that we have followed.” \n\nImage: News Corp Australia
