World War II soldier Edward ‘Teddy’ Sheean has been recommended to receive the nation’s highest honour for a service man or woman for his exemplary actions in 1942.

World War II veteran Edward ‘Teddy’ Sheean has been recommended to receive the nation’s highest honour for a service man or woman for his exemplary actions in 1942. Tasmanian sailor Teddy Sheean saved the lives of some of his shipmates in 1942 after ignoring orders to abandon an Australian minesweeper which had come under heavy Japanese fire. The 18-year-old was able to bring down one plane and damage two more before dying strapped to his weapon.

Mr Morrison said the report found “compelling new evidence in support for high recognition for Sheean”. “That Sheehan was done a substantial injustice in consideration of his actions in the original decision making period in 1942 to 1943,” he said. The Prime Minister said he submitted the recommendation to the Governor General and the matter was now before Her Majesty the Queen. “We will be hopeful for what will come back as a contented response from Her Majesty,” he said.

Atomic bombings helped bring WWII 'to a sudden close' | Sky News AustraliaWhile the 1945 atomic bombings of Japan were a tragedy, the swift end to the war no doubt saved millions of lives, according to military historian Tom Lewis OAM.\n\nThis week marked the 75th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima on 6 August 1945, which killed more than 100,000 people.\n\nA second attack, which targeted Nagasaki on 9th of August, killed in excess of 80,000.\n\nJapanese Emperor Hirohito announced his nation's surrender on August 15th.\n\nMr Lewis told Sky News the two bombs bought a war, which threatened to drag on into 1946, to a sudden close.\n\n'The Japanese forces fought in World War 2 like you wouldn't believe, 97 per cent of their forces died instead of surrender,' he said.\n\n'For example, every month the war went one, you found 250,000 people dying a week in Japanese-held territories.\n\n'If the War had continued through until the end of 1946 we would have probably seen 30 million Japanese dying and probably one-and-a-half million of our people dying.'\n\n\n I don't deny this opinion but it can't be an excuse for the massacre in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Tommy didnt even mention Russia’s critical entry into war against Japan on Aug 8, nor does Tommy consider whether US concerns about Soviet threat in postwar years played any role in decision to drop A-bombs. Tommy also ignores possibility of a demonstration shot in a remote area. To bad they only had two bombs

Australia needs Trump to win the election because 'we cannot face China alone' | Sky News AustraliaLiberal Senator James McGrath says Australia needs President Donald Trump to win the upcoming presidential election to help it stand up to China. \n\nMr McGrath said China was the “greatest threat to the rules-based order the world is seeing at the moment.”\n\nPresident Trump would be better at dealing with China than presidential candidate Joe Biden because he knows “when you deal with bullies … you don’t give them shoulder massages, you’ve got to stand up to them.” Mr McGrath told Sky news. \n\n“Biden isn’t a foreign affairs hawk, he’s like a foreign affairs budgerigar”\n\nMr McGrath said Australia needed to ensure there was a 'coalition of the willing” standing against China and required the help of a strong president in the White House. \n\nImage: Getty realDonaldTrump I agree. I’m not a fan of Trump. But Biden is a puppet of China when he was VP. He agrees with China and not intend to make China accountable and eventually national security will be at risk. JoeBiden realDonaldTrump lol. What a moron realDonaldTrump Why he would keep standing against C after the election?
