The tragedy of Emma Lovell's alleged murder prompts other victims of youth crime to speak out and demand further action from the Queensland government, including calls for a victims' minister.

– have spoken of their "anger, frustration and tears" over Ms Lovell's alleged murder.

"We need to hold them accountable … we need the removal of concurrent sentencing removed for juvenile killers .. and we need our maximum penalty removed for juvenile killers," Mr Beaumont said. Former Queensland Law Society president Bill Potts said a minister or commissioner for victims would "formally recognise the very real trauma and effects of crime on the population".

Mr Potts said a minister for victims would also assist first responders and "those who are left to pick up the pieces" in "horrific circumstances".Womens' Legal Service CEO Nadia Bromley supports the establishment of a victims' commissioner

When one cannot help constructively, one destroys. This is true for both young offenders and these 'victims' who are so eager to turn into vindictive executioners.

The 2 seventeen year olds arrested , where they aboriginal ? the ABC would certainly say if they were white !

Just so we are clear, what race are the murderers.

Give disapline powers back to parents might help.

Please stop these racist articles on this terrible crime by First Nations youths - it messes with our agenda.

Interesting that ABC white hating tax payer run outlet doesn’t mention how these black murderers are aboriginal. Why ABC if they were white you would have it every where. Another ABC corrupt view going unpunished.

So does anyone know what the maximum sentence is if they get found guilty of murder?

Albosleezy needs to call it a hate crime just like he did with Cassius. What's good for the goose is good for the gander sleezy Albanese. Racist 💩

Labor is at fault here 100%. they are responsible for someone let out of jail in less that 2 years for an attempted murder stabbing. that is grossly irresponsible at least and criminal at worst. a 'reckless indifference to human life'

Greens , Teals , ABC the voting age should be 16 , I say that a 17 year old can be charged and sentenced as an adult then. Works both ways 🤷‍♂️

Hate crime.?

VoteNo to more babysitters for Fictional Nations criminals

I’ve had two ‘aboriginal’ attempted break ins. Was attacked with a screwdriver. Lucky I was a man, young and stood my ground. The police knew who they were but couldn’t do anything about it. 🤷‍♂️

There are 2 links to official Qld Parliament petitions currently active to address youth crime below You can sign these by clicking on the links and following the instructions at the green button which says sign

Society has voted in this criminal behaviour. Politicians could make self protection laws, but the masses get brainwashed by the media, and vote in politician’s that never create such laws. Would you vote in a politician who’s platform was, self protection and personal rights

One of the perp's was free 1 year after attempted murder. It's not rocket surgery.

If this was a Caucasian on indigenous there would be marches, rallies , racism claims and we'd never hear the end of it. What a joke of a leftie society we've become.

This situation is horrific of course justice must be done. In saying that what about the other 10 or so women killed? Why don’t they prompt knee jerk law changes? Why is one victim deemed more worthwhile than another? Well that’s how it looks in the media coverage to date.

Maybe it's time if you commit a crime u do some time.

Mention everything but the fact it is illegal to defend yourself in your own home.

They obviously mean it literally! !

The ABC has spent the last decade campaigning for these very offenders to be set free.

If only those kids had a voice in parliament none of this would have happened.

Why has the ABC refused to mention that the crimes (and the Wieamballa murders) were committed by the people the ABC want to give a VOICE to parliament to? Tell the whole story. Divide on race, suffer the consequences. One Australia.

Victims 'speak out' in the face of youth worker practitioners claiming restricting freedoms of teenage psychopaths won't help, people just have to accept violent shenanigans of these twisted youths until they calm down as they age?

I was once held at knife point by a young Aboriginal man who broke into the house where I was staying and who wanted to kill a white person. I convinced him to leave but the police weren't interested assuming it was a gay hookup gone wrong. Lock. Them.Up.

This should be gut wrenching to us all ..

Simple allow castle law, allow homeowners to own firearms for self defence and turn the tables on these criminals as the police and judiciary are failing the public.

If we are serious about ending violence in society...we have to end violence in gaols. Too many youth are 'inspired' by former inmates.

….maybe remove children from very bad parents…

Police, courts and governments are letting crime rage out of control to ensure society lives in fear. Australia has turned into an absolute cess pitt.

We don’t need “awareness programs” in schools and “stop violence” ads on the TV. We need tougher penalties for violent offenders. Cops do a relatively good job of catching them, but then magistrates let them back out on the streets or give them ludicrously lenient sentences.

National Bootcamps out bush and away from society, with possible military service after a period. worked around the world in the past. The kids are bored and have too much time on their hands and that is a dangerous combination. Jail or Bootcamp - I know what I'd take.

Youth Crime you say! What about Indigenous Youth Crime? Indigenous youth criminals diverted from Correctional Services & released on bail! Q Why are some Indigenous youth so angry, violent & out of fooking control? Rejecting their parents, old ways, drugs, DV,etc? JNampijinpa

Hopefully this article represents a change in the ABC’s narrative on youth and indigenous detention.

The knee jerk reaction from the Govt is useless ,its just noise for political mileage

Although I do think a circuit breaker is needed, the focus and goal should be to prevent as much crime as possible and people from becoming victims not just responding to it. The Qld Government does nothing in this regard.

A victims commission would make sense and exists already in other jurisdictions. It skulls be arms length though and not used for clout as happened in Miss Higgins case in ACT.

Just another reason to vote no for the left wings voice to Parliament.. The only voice needed here is a judge sentencing the bastards to life...

The sooner the overly-woke ABCNews stop ignoring the ‘elephant in the room’ that the problem is 99.99% (or more ) to do with aborigines, the sooner the problem might be acknowledged and fixed. You’re not helping, ABCNews❗️

What is the race of the assailant?

thanks for covering, abc perhaps if our youth were taught respect, patience and the golden rule in loving family homes this would be less of a problem

Increased sentencing doesn't work as a deterrent, this is a woeful and destructive policy change that will do nothing to lower crime rates, but will destroy more lives. Read the bloody research and attack the root causes.

Wow. Ten years for stealing a car. Thats almost half a life sentence. I wonder with increased numbers of youth being detained, will they be held in privitised detention facilities? 🤔 followthemoney

Allegedly killed?!?! This is so disgusting, sadly some people will stick up for the murderous SCUM Qld prisons are over capacity. That's why so many are released early. 'Knee-jerk' reaction to mother's fatal stabbing risks creating 'better criminals', advocate warnsEmma Lovell was fatally stabbed in the chest on her front porch on Monday night, prompting a call for a crackdown on youth crime. How about instead of releasing these young criminals after a few months at most, they do life sentences? Regardless of their age? If they commit adult-type crimes, whatever that may be, they should be given the same justice as adults. Stop this namby-pamby slap on the wrist crap. Why don’t you ever report that the actual crims were black like you do when it’s a black death in custody? You clowns at keep pushing this divide further with your so called “journalism” Undoubtedly the offenders will fit into a stereotypical, violent knife attack demographic?

Qld government to change youth crime laws after Emma Lovell’s death“These are tough measures, they will be put in place, and community safety as I said, is paramount here,” Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said. There is no evidence stiffer sentences deter crime, but if it appeals to the Courier Mail crowd, the Palaszczuk government is always up for it. I would like to know how many of these kids actually get a 7 year sentence, very few would be my guess. The current system doesn’t work and either will this one, it will not deter kids from committing these crimes. Conservative-lite
