Following the announcement Qantas will shed a further 2500 jobs, the Transport Workers Union have called for the airline to return millions of taxpayer dollars.

Qantas CEO Alan Joyce said more tough decisions will be made as the aviation industry continues to weather the COVID-19 storm. Picture: Justin LloydSince Tuesday’s announcement of further job cuts, Mr Kaine has written to Mr Morrison about the airline’s latest employment decision.

“It has used public money to subsidise their wages and is now downgrading their jobs … These jobs still exist, Qantas just wants to outsource them to pay workers less. As part of the airline’s $2.7 billion loss announced last week, the Qantas Group received $515 million gross in government support. The 10 airports where Qantas proposes to outsource this work are Adelaide, Alice Springs, Brisbane, Cairns, Canberra, Darwin, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney and Townsville.

What part of “Stay Home - Stay Local” does the TWU not understand. No wonder Unions are now irrelevant No income + no profits = no business + no employees. We can’t all be Union organisers, SuperFund Directors, ALP politicians and Public Servants.

Joyce to pay back all his bonus’ 😥😥😥😥

I feel for all those impacted who have lost their jobs. I hope they are being well supported with this transition and are receiving access to counselling.

If Qantas returns millions of dollars - how will Qantas pay any wages?

Outsourcing? So get rid of jobs and then employ others at a lower pay rate? Sounds legit.....

No way joycey is gonna do that he won’t be able to justify his massive Xmas bonus that way!
