BREAKING: Following a horror week for the airline, Qantas have announced more jobs will go as part of their cost cutting measures amid the global pandemic.

According to the airline, the decision will save the carrier almost $100 million, with the jobs set to go from ten major airports across the country.

Qantas Domestic CEO Andrew David said the job losses amid the pandemic had been “the greatest challenger the aviation industry has ever faced”.“Airlines have to change how they operate to ensure they can survive long-term,” he said. “Today’s announcement will be very tough for our hardworking teams, most of whom have already been stood down for months without work,” he said.

Job losses of at least 6,000 have already been announced as part of the airline’s restructure in response to border closures and more permanent structural changes to the aviation industry.

Alan Joyce is not a people person, methinks. Remember when he grounded the entire Qantas fleet and left thousand of travellers stranded across the world ?

Alan Joyce is a genius ... the Qantas International CEO stepped down yesterday ... there is a Qantas Domestic CEO ... then above that is Alan Joyce ... that is brilliant ... what does he do besides collecting the paycheck and bonuses ?

Is it really worth outsourcing to other countries especially now. They're happy to take Government help though. As a tax payer I think we should ask for our money back. It pays to look at smaller companies if you really want to support Australian jobs.

Everyone of those axed Qantas employees has a family, children, a mortgage, credit card debts, dreams of a better life for their family; All gone up in smoke?;Who gives our govt the right to destroy their ability to live independently and pursue their hopes and dreams?;This is BS!

What s shame, we need the States with no covid to reopen their borders to each other. Need to get those planes back in the air which will get some of the jobs back again.

So the jobs aren’t gone. Just the current staff. Outsourcing means cheaper paid staff which means inferior services to follow. I know we all need to make changes but I predict Qantas won’t come back from this one.

special thanks to MarkMcGowanMP and AnnastaciaMP for their dumb border closures being a significant reason for this For WA and Qld voters your idiot premiers are taking your jobs

borders are closed. what does one expect? these kind of announcements are going to keep coming.

It’s terrible news for employees from Qantas Really hope Australian border can be open by early 2021 Whoever created this covid19 should deserve the karma they would receive.

Including the CEO ?

auspol if they outsourced the C level managers they would save far more oney, plus few would know they weren't there

I hope Qantas survives. It’s a world class airline.

Qantas axes top CEO positionThe chief executive of Qantas’ international business has fallen on his sword, as the premier airline takes a knife to its staff numbers in wake of the coronavirus financially wounding the aviation industry. Common sense approach given the state of play. Qantas is finished. These draconian unscientific illegal border closures like in Queensland and WA will finish the airline. Times are so tough, Qantas is selling its pyjamas — but post-coronavirus flying is not all doom and gloomWith COVID-19 cases stabilising in NSW and coming down in Victoria, air travellers are starting to dream again. But things won't look the same after the pandemic and the massive discounts we're used to won't be there anymore. Stuff Qantas how much money have we give them and they still sack thousands. Too dangerous to fly anyway Scrap the metal to make Starships. Very happy to take the year off travelling 🧳 ..... but it will all have to start up again soon.
