Victoria is facing a dangerous shortage of personal protective equipment as interstate nurses are asked to answer an urgent call to arms to help the embattled state.

West Australian nurses have been called on to deploy "as soon as possible" to help with the crisis and could depart within the week.

Those who register must be able to travel to Victoria within 24 to 48 hours of being contacted and deploy for three to six weeks. A recent survey has revealed one in five registered nurses in the state did not have appropriate equipment for each shift. Premier Daniel Andrews has said PPE demands will be met. Image: AP
