A drunk-driver who crashed into a shopfront in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs was supposed to be self-isolating after returning from overseas.

The 23-year-old Deepdene man drove into the Balwyn North property at about 5am on Tuesday and returned a positive breath test at the scene, Victoria Police said.

The man, who is understood to have returned from overseas 13 days ago, was taken to Box Hill Hospital with minor injuries. He will be interviewed in relation to both the crash and his failure to comply with the mandatory 14-day quarantine for returning travellers.
