Following Ramaphosa’s State of the Nation address on Thursday, the watchdog says nothing has been done to hold those implicated in capturing the State to account.

CAPE TOWN - Corruption Watch says lack of clarity and accountability about state capture recommendations by President Cyril Ramaphosa will cost the governing party during elections.

This comes after the president tabled his final State of the Nation Address for the current administration in Cape Town City Hall on Thursday. The watchdog said billions of rand were stolen out of the country's fiscus, and nothing happened to those that were fingered by the State capture commission of inquiry.

"Implicated persons, persons with adverse findings against them, should have been asked to step aside. We have had a step aside rule in place for a long time," said Corruption Watch’s executive director, Karam Singh. “People like Zweli Mkhize had to fall on their sword as a result of that type of an approach. So, there are a number of people that seemed to have a degree of impunity around them."
