A team of researchers led by Christoph Becker at Heidelberg University in Germany found that parents tend to be happier than non-parents in old age, but this only holds if their kids have moved out.Previous research has suggested that parenthood, social networks and marital status affect the well-being and mental health of older people, and this latest study looks at the effects of family status.
Read More"The results suggest that the finding of a negative link between children and well-being and mental health may not generalize to older people whose children have often left home already," the study says."As stress associated with balancing the competing demands of childcare, work and personal life decreases, once people get older and their children leave , the importance of children as caregivers and social contacts might prevail.
💯
So any single women out there want to condemn themselves to 25 years of misery with me? 😂😂🤣
If you’re having kids to make yourself happier, just don’t.
I have not found this to be true.
CNN is master-level trolling me right now. 'Your kids don't make you happy. Kick them out and you will be happier. Wolfe commands it....'
I feel like this study is trolling me.
Sometimes even after they move out, they marry mean spouses who don't let you see your grandchildren, which makes you unhappy. So, if you are having children to make yourself happy, just know, it's a risk.
Stop pushing parenthood on everyone. Your precious birth rate is going down, religious leaders and titans of industry, and you'd better get used to it.
Having kids with jobs makes me really happy. :))
My cat has made me pretty happy and been a lot cheaper....just saying.
With overpopulation being the 1 contributor to global warming; nothing will ever be more important than saving the planet. Adopt-don’t-shop applies to humans too! If you want to be a parent, adopt one of the millions of already-born kids that need a home. childfree
So in other words stay childless
This is just me, but NOTHING i do will ever surpass the experience of being a father..... and I mean this in a mind blowing good way. Challenges? Yes. There are days you just want to cry that you made a mistake? Yes. Days that are really hard? Yes. Happiness? Boatloads🙏
Skip the kids - just have grandkids! They’re the best
HaHaHaHaHaHa! Faint praise!
That makes sense
Bullshit, having children around were my happiest day
What bullshit! Some more of usual progressive anti family garbage! Great to know though, Liberals anti child outlook vs conservative pro child outlook is depleting the progressive base & growing the conservative base! Check out Dr. Steve Turley on Youtube for great stats on this
This totally explains why I’m unhappy🙄 And what about this study:
A slightly exaggerated analogy: 'having a dog is a good thing, after he dies.'
Bull shit!!! I have a 3 year old girl and a 3 month old son. Never been happier. CNN sucks. I’ll be happier when cnn moves out... of the country.
Not watching CNN will make you happier.
Ya but aren’t kids staying home in record numbers? What if they don’t leave!
Who believes FakeNewsCNN who is hoping for a recession so millions of Americans suffer
I know 30 year olds who are college educated and working that are still living with mom and dad because they can’t afford to move out. You talk like rents haven’t been skyrocketing, right.
you needed a study to realize this?
How about never having kids, therefore they never have to 'move out' and always be happy. That's where I'm at. ❤
It all depends.
I'm 30, with 3 little kids, and I'm pretty happy.
Cue the climate change morons who aren’t having kids but 10 mangy dogs and cats.
Where do you transmit this report from? From London, the city of the sleepers, born to lie.
You is probably Americo/Eurocentric... ‘cos there’s no “moving out” in my culture; you move out, they (parents) move in, as occasion demands. It’s a win-win social security arrangement.
having a child gave my life meaning and purpose, which is lacked prior.
Great logic CNN
Aha aha 😴😴😴😴😴
For a Reason!!
Another study shows having kids will shorten your lives.
Having kids to make you happier, and Ever Lustre digital photo frame designed to keep all your precious memories in one place. Enjoy your warm and wonderful memories
Heather51321 lol
How long will the moving out take 😂😂
However, why so many Americans have had childfree-by-choice in their life? It's simple. They don't want to spend their valuable time and money for the kids caring and raising 'cause it's not easier than what people's think. 🙁
Ha ha ha!
😂
Making my kiddo move out at 10 years old
This sounds a lot like an TheOnion headline...
It’s not child-less, it’s child-FREE thank you very much.
Most people might interpret that as meaning the cause for their happiness is seeing the kids leave. But perhaps child rearing is more foundational than that. You can’t see the great view unless you’ve hiked up the mountain.
OK, we believe you. 🙄
Messages are crucial! When parents let know that kids are a nuisance, you could understand the loneliness of people in this country. Kids should be love forever, if not, better do not have them!
Lol.
Canada ... Wrong. Having children at any age is very rewarding. To watch them grow ... develop ... learn ... nothing beats that. That said, it is a lot of work and at first, some sleepless nights. But, it is ALL worth it.
No thanks
Not exactly a convincing argument for having kids. I'm happy that I'm childfree. Never regretted that decision.
I know but if you are honest it is not fair to have childeren.
