Toby Kelly has been sentenced to 28 years in prison for using his van to kill off-duty ambulance worker Sheldon Flanighan. The incident occurred outside a pub in Cramlington, Northumberland, on April 1. Kelly was convicted of murder and attempted murder and was sentenced to life in prison at Newcastle Crown Court.

A man who killed an ambulance worker has been jailed for 28 years . Toby Kelly used his van to kill off-duty Sheldon Flanighan outside a pub in Cramlington in Northumberland on April 1. Sheldon and his friend, Wayne Common, had tried to protect Kelly's partner - who was scuffling with him - and prevent him from drink driving. But Kelly went on to reverse over him and then proceeded to move forwards over his body, leaving him with catastrophic injuries.

Chronicle Live reports that the 38-year-old was convicted of murder last week alongside the attempted murder of Wayne. He was jailed for life at Newcastle Crown Court. Sheldon's family released a statement following his sentencing. His sister, Julia Burnett, speaking on behalf of the family, including her sister, Sharon Walton, and Sheldon’s two sons Calvin and Joe, said: "Sheldon was an amazing character. He filled our lives with love and care, fun and antics, and hilarious laughter. He was a dedicated dad and was so very proud of his sons, Calvin and Joe.
