Boeing announces fixes for its 737 Max aircraft

Boeing has issued changes to controversial control systems linked to two fatal crashes of its 737 Max planes in the last five months.

Boeing said in future airlines would no longer be charged extra for that safety system to be installed. The plane-maker has also issued an upgrade to the software that has been linked to the crashes. The US Federal Aviation Administration says there are similarities between that crash and the Ethiopian accident on 10 March.

The practice was described by one senator, Richard Blumenthal, as leaving"the fox guarding the henhouse". Calvin Scovel, inspector general of the Department of Transportation, who also appeared before Congress, said:"Other safety regulators around the world decided in their role as safety regulators, they needed to drive risk to zero and they did that by grounding the aircraft."

Mr Elwell said that he was"confident" in the MCAS system and that pilots were trained in how to deal with a situation where a plane drops suddenly.

Don't trust them!

But didn't they deny there was an issue? They might blame the Russians.

Does it? Reporting suggest a warning system already available to tell you what’s wrong with the poxy plane just made standard. is this a fix?

Let’s charge them for additional safety features way to go Boeing

Not their fault but they got a fix within days... Confession.

These planes we're unfit to fly the airways, can see a massive lawsuit approaching, needless deaths.

AS i understand it - this is a second additional feature to tell you the first additional feature may not be working so you should turn it off to see if that helps. Anyone else would've just removed the first addtional feature in the first place!

I don’t feel safe flying on this plane anymore Boeing 737 max 8

So can all the victims estates sue the hell out of Boeing now ? Just asking .

Ban these plains the sooner the better

While denying that the issue that was fixed was the cause of the accidents

There was a time when you just gave them a good thump on the top of the radar screen. The squiggles stopped, briefly displayed the BBC test Card, then corrected its flight path.

Use them just to taxi people between terminals?

'As part of the upgrade, Boeing will install as a standard a warning system, which was previously an optional safety feature.' I'm never flying again...

An optional safety system wasn't in the 2 crashed aircraft....? Since when did aircraft have an optional 'safety pack'?! I guess the same time missing aircraft GPS was also an option.

No one will fly with this trash can.

That sounds like a security update, which is pretty worrying really.

Bit late innit?

The problems should’ve been fixed when they were testing out the planes not after the planes crashed killing hundreds of people ❤️🇺🇸👸🏼💋

They announce 'fix' and yet: 'Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the accidents.' 😁🤡

Can they fix the president, he keeps nose diving too?

Have they turned them off and then back on again

Boeing 737 Max 8 planes lacked two safety features that cost extraThe optional safety features - an angle of attack indicator and a disagree light - are not mandated by the Federal Aviation Administration and are only installed if the airline pays for it. How much would it have cost to add that to the package at no added charge, V the cost of hundreds dead, lawsuits flying thicker than aircraft? Reminds of 'Unsafe at Any Speed' from US auto pennywise pound foolishness Forgive me if I’m missing something, but if the planes crash without them, surely they shouldn’t be optional? So Greed behind the Boeing crashes

This is not good, surely the victims families will no doubt be pursuing compensation from the airline In gaming terms, these were the optional but essential DLCs that were not bought to complete the story mission. Didn't realize that this 'extra' practice has spread to airline industry as well! Proved to be a very expensive saving.
