Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Wildlife Department and its key local conservation groups’ coordinated series of impactful projects has significantly strengthened the protection of pangolins which are classified as a totally protected species under Sabah law.

“Pangolins are endangered, and protecting them is a top priority. We take this seriously and will rigorously prosecute any violators,” said Sabah Wildlife Department Director Augustine Tuuga.“Our recent efforts demonstrate our unwavering commitment to safeguarding this species,” he said.

“Educational efforts have made a noticeable difference in public perception and behaviour towards pangolins,” said Elisa Panjang, a local pangolin biologist and founder of Pangolin Aware. “We urge the public to become ambassadors for pangolins and report any illegal activities or rescue cases to the authorities,” said Elisa.

The department, conservation partners and local communities remain steadfast in their commitment to expanding and enhancing wildlife conservation initiatives statewide.
