Work addiction can be a defense mechanism that develops over time, driven by a primal need for validation and praise. It is not simply a result of ambition, but can evolve as personality traits and psychological needs change. The concept of overworking is often instilled in us from a young age, with study addiction being a precursor to work addiction.
