'We make our own decisions': Australia-US vow to counter China at AUSMIN talks | KnottMatthew FarrahTomazin

The US and Australia have vowed to beef up their joint military efforts in Darwin and pursue co-operation on missile and hypersonic defence technologies to counter an increasingly assertive China following high-level talks in the US capital.

Payne said that although Australia and the US are close allies they "don’t agree on everything though - and that’s part of a respectful relationship".Following the meetings, the ministers vowed to pursue "practical ways to strengthen our ability to address a range of challenges in a more contested Indo-Pacific, from countering malign gray-zone tactics to deterring aggression in the region".

"I think it’s important as we think forward about how we deter bad behaviour in the Indo-Pacific and how we defend the international rules-based order, in this case specifically with regards to China.

KnottMatthew FarrahTomazin No you don't, you're always bowing down to Uncle Sam's every whim.

KnottMatthew FarrahTomazin What she said is a joke, the outfit she is wearing is also a joke, no masks is a joke. Wake up, this is Morrison's worst PR exercise yet. Nobody is buying it.

KnottMatthew FarrahTomazin Apparently, Australians can’t make their own decision. We’re diplomatically driven by our master, US and have to spend $270b defence budget to please him as well, buying a certificate of ally.

KnottMatthew FarrahTomazin Embarrassing for one of our ministers to be sharing a podium with a crook like Pompeo. May as well hang out with Putin.

KnottMatthew FarrahTomazin Marise Payne standing there with the supercilious smirk looking at Pompeo the zealot yeah sure we make our own decisions, ScottyTheSaviour needs to pay the piper I am afraid.

KnottMatthew FarrahTomazin This is what the US is really countering: 'economic globalisation more open, inclusive, balanced and beneficial for all' (Xi Jinping). US policy is to ''make America Great again'. What sad fools we are today..

KnottMatthew FarrahTomazin What a Joke! We cringe and say yes sir, yes sir every time sinophobia USA tells us what to do. Actually, we are a spineless country relying on a corrupt world bully. auspol

KnottMatthew FarrahTomazin lol, no we are US lapdog and when they said jump, we said 'how high?'. It obvious that's why she said 'We make our own decisions'. Putting Oz on the map of nuclear warheads

US-China relations are at their ‘worst point’ since 1979 | Sky News AustraliaSky News US political commentator Joe Hockey says relations between the US and China are at their worst point since China reopened to the world in 1979 after cyber attacks against the US were traced back to China’s Houston Consulate.\n\n“Unquestionably, the Chinese were using devices – almost like a mothership – for basically cyber attacking and cyber hacking key businesses in the region,” Mr Hockey told Sky News host Paul Murray.\n\nThe US State Department accused Chinese agents of seeking to steal national data from facilities in Texas.\n\n“As soon as the Americans were onto it, there was a massive bonfire of documents at the back of the Houston consulate (which) suggested that there was an element of guilt,” he said.\n\n“The net result was that it became apparent that it was a hub for intelligence gathering for China”.\n\nThe US, as a result, ordered China to close its consulate in Houston Texas, and in retaliation China responded in kind by closing the US consulate in Chengdu immediately.\n\n“Relations are at their worst point since (China) really reopened in 1979,” Mr Hockey said.\n\n“It’s going to be a really tough period for relations between China and the US into the future.”\n\nImage: AP JoeHockey JoeHockey Chinese Communist Party is liar! Australia-US looking to ramp up joint military exercises in South China SeaAustralia and the United States are set to conduct more joint military exercises in the South China Sea following Canberra's decision to brand China's territorial claims unlawful at the United Nations. Don't do it Australia you are not a power house when it comes military, USA pretending yous are mates because they're gunning for war. Looks like Jared’s met his Australian counterpart. Two of the world’s emptiest puppets meet up for a MENSA convention. Very foolish game that we have no right to play. US is in the wrong on this unilateral escalation and we would do best to stay away and advise them to pull their head in.
