Thousands of Australians are being over diagnosed with cancer each year and are going through unnecessary surgery and chemotherapy that could be harmful.

The Medical Journal of Australia estimated close to 11,000 women and 18,000 men were over being over-diagnosed annually.

The figures amounted to about 18 per cent of breast cancer diagnoses and 24 per cent of diagnoses in men. Health professionals believe it was due to national breast screening program, as well as extensive screening by doctors. Image: Getty

uhmmm...What about the risk of missed/late diagnosis/ treatment? It is well known that early diagnosis improves chances of survival & diminishes costly & dangerous/fatal relapses. Late diagnosed Cancer may be untreatable. More specific info pls

There are more people employed in the cancer industry than people who die from cancer annually which is the reason why a cure will never be given. There are many ways to treat cancer besides cutting, burning and poisoning people. For those with cancer

We shouldn't be surprised, its not about healthcare of the patients health. It's the business of healthcare industry, somewhat like charities these day's
