Assistant minister to the prime minister and cabinet Ben Morton says he is “pleased to see” the political arguments associated with Australia Day have seemingly “diminished” this year.

Mr Morton told Sky News host Paul Murray he has an “immense” pride for the nation and that Australia Day is “a great time to come together and celebrate”. “I love this country,” he said.

Mr Morton said he believes a “huge majority” of Australians are “sick of hearing” continual debate about Australia Day celebrations. “This self-loathing that occurs, quite frankly I don’t understand it,” he said. “I think reflecting on our past … respecting the contribution of everybody is the best way”. The first fleet monument in Syd has nothing but Aboriginal flags on the dozens of poles. Aust is putting out a confusing message to the World & visitors with 2 flags. ScottMorrisonMP make a captain’s call as you did with the anti-Aust citizenship ceremonies & stop this rot.

Invasion Day is just an alternative expression of Australia Day. It will be tossed into a banal portfolio 'things to do' by a tourism board and it will never achieve its goals.

Correct, but the Left Wing media and the outspoken minority will continue to push this divide. Identity Politics is about division not unity. Aren't we all Australian? Let's celebrate this great country and focus on what unites us.

Just because you're from the stolen generation. Doesn't mean you should think of the past.

Are Ben Morton and his side kick blind/deaf? The objection is still there, it is a raw subject for the Indigenous. We need discourse.

I would say Ben is the perfect man for his job. Like his boss he sees the truth and speaks the opposite

Thats why record numbers were at protests in the major cities this year. White privileged journalism at its finest.

Every day is Australia day, not just the 26th which it's greatest significance genocide day for the native aboriginal people.... 2/2

Absolutely, as the govt pushes the patriotic idiot agenda.... The Aust govt, couldn't care less about Australia.... Selling land to foreign investors not leasing... Gas contract to China & Japan, where we could import our own gas cheaper... The Murray Darling sell off.. 1/2

How true its the same debate year after year its boring.

What? Some white racist nobody claims the InvasionDay2020 was less vocal then normal? What a disgusting lede. More people than ever were on the streets demanding to Change the date, the flag and especially the anthem. LNPCrimeFamily auspol2020 CrimeMinister

There's only one side creating division and it ain't us.

The idea that you can reframe people’s minds just by telling them something was different than it actually was is not just mischievous, it’s sinister and unbalanced. You’re a sick person.....a very sick person....

I am sick of it , each year same thing so let’s please change the date to January 1st and then get on in life enjoying Australia Day together.

This guys a fuckin joke! Did he not watch any other news feed outside of Murdoch propaganda press....

BEN MORTON maybe you could explain WHY an AUSTRALIAN CITIZEN on AUSTRALIAN SOIL was ARRESTED on AUSTRALIA DAY for having a NATIONAL FLAG in the presence of indigenous protesters who INVADED AUSTRALIA DAY celebration? VICTORIANPOLICE should be on TREASON CHARGES U WOMBATS 🤬

Loud minority getting smaller.. 🤣🤣🤣

Australians don’t give a sh^t what bullsh*t the murdochracy posts

😳

Seemingly. They're roaring on streets of cities and towns. Protests are bigger this year.

If that’s true it’s probably just because people have been slightly distracted by AustraliaBurning and sportsrorts. It’s not because everyone is now happy with the date.

Why do we keep displaying the so called Aboriginal Flag? It represents 3% of the population. Stop bowing down to this minority group.

He obviously doesn’t spend much time getting out and listening to people. I think people are really starting to get it.

Don't thick Ben Morton on tweeter

That's an interesting take on it Ben.

one extremely mental news outlet

Yes all this guilt shaming ffs it's time to move on. What do aboriginal and Palestinian causes have in common? Neither will stop until the race they oppose is displaced and ethnically cleansed

Culture War done and dusted. All is good.

Invasion day protests even bigger this year The moronic claim that debate is over is embarrassing

Is this like when his boss said firefighters want to be there?

Happy Australia Day. Please can you take another boat load from the UK? Thanks.

Ben must have slept all day
