The researchers concluded that the infection fatality ratio in the state was therefore 0.58 per cent, which is within the range of current estimates .Australia has some of the best testing rates in the world.Ahead of us are the United Arab Emirates , Bahrain , Denmark and Russia . "We pride ourselves on very high levels of testing so we would expect a lower level of undetection in Australian than some overseas settings," Professor Kaldor said.Professor Kaldor and his team are analysing blood samples taken for other reasons to look for antibodies and estimate how many undocumented cases we've missed.

"The serological findings will give us an insight into how we can enhance our testing strategies to get better coverage of cases in the community," Professor Kaldor said.

Vic’s nine-day COVID-19 test delay ‘fundamental dysfunction’ | Sky News AustraliaAustralian National University Professor Mark Kenny says Victoria is experiencing “dysfunction at a very fundamental level” after it was revealed some people in the state are waiting more than a week to find out the result of their COVID-19 tests.\n\n“Associated with that test comes the obligation to not have any contact with anyone while you’re waiting for the results,” Mr Kenny said.\n\n“It’s unacceptable for that to be such a long period only to find that it could be a negative result – particularly if people are having it out of an abundance of caution – they’re not feeling any symptoms, they might’ve known someone who thought they did.\n\n“Whatever it might be, they have a test and then they’re required to wait an inordinate amount of time.\n\n“That makes contact tracing, if it turns out they test positive during that period, particularly if they haven’t been isolating for a whole week or whatever it might be, that makes that extremely difficult.”\n\nHis remarks come after come after Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell revealed regional Victorians are left waiting up to nine to get their virus test result back.\n\n“Daniel Andrews needs to explain why it takes nine days to get a rest result back in regional Victoria and one day in regional NSW,” Mr Clennell said. \n\nImage: Getty

Victorians waiting more than a week for COVID-19 test results | Sky News AustraliaInfected Victorians are waiting up to nine days to get their COVID-19 test results back with the delays hurting the staffing of local businesses and further risking the spread of the virus.\n\nSky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell said Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews needed to explain why tests were being delayed after the state recorded another 532 cases of COVID-19 and six more deaths.\n\n“In New South Wales, where they have been doing 10,000-plus tests a day and up to 30,000 on occasion a day, the average wait for test results, I am reliably told, is 24 hours,” Mr Clennell said.\n\n“Daniel Andrews needs to explain why it takes nine days to get a rest result back in regional Victoria and one day in regional New South Wales.\n\n“We know the army has gone in in last couple of days, after an initial reluctance to accommodate them by the Andrews government, to help with contact tracing but the question is, is it too late?”\n\nA small business owner in the town of Colac wrote to local state MP Richard Riordan speaking of their experience with COVID-19 tests in the area.\n\n“I am the owner of a small business of 5 workers in Colac,' the email read.\n\n“The week when the outbreak first hit, our worker and myself both showed no symptoms.\n\n“We thought we would do the right thing by everyone, due to our exposure to a vast number of people in the community and we got tested. \n\n“To eliminate ourselves as potential carriers, we tested straight away on Saturday the 18th July.\n\n'We tested at different times during that day. \n\n“We are still waiting on our results 9 days later. . . I have heard of numerous cases like ourselves.”\n\n aclennell I assume 5 day average which gives a reasonable exponential trend. I predicted 584 to be reported this morning. Big jump to 43k tests yesterday so watch ~Aug1. RitaPanahi aclennell Victoria is a mess. DanielAndrewsMP is not up for this.
