Victoria Chief Officer Brett Sutton says he's hopeful the state will finally begin to flatten the coronavirus curve despite recording a record number of cases on Monday. Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has announced the state recorded 532 new COVID-19 infections in the past 24 hours, with six people succumbing to the disease.
Five out of six of the deaths were linked to aged care and 683 active cases were connected to such facilities. Meanwhile, Victorian private hospitals are freeing up beds to provide special care for elderly coronavirus patients as part of an agreement between the federal government and the private hospital sector in the fight against the pandemic.
