The case against William Bligh: he was a brilliant bastard's bastard | Peter_Fitz

As if you didn’t know, Australia’s National Maritime Museum has an exhibition entitled “Bligh: hero or villain”. Too easy, Campese.

And yet so angrily did Bligh comport himself – my own theory is that sustained sexual frustration amid sexual plenty must have added to that anger – that before the end of the month half the ship was ready to risk hanging just to be rid of him. The climactic moment came because Bligh was convinced that one of them had stolen his coconuts, and so lined up the officers and crew like errant schoolboys to accuse them. So typically excoriating was his language that something inside Christian snapped, and we know the rest.On the fabled journey in the launch there were two mini-mutinies which Bligh only just managed to put down, and both were hushed up when they finally got back to London.

Peter_Fitz We can only hope records won't be destroyed regarding current 'leaders'. A book worth reading, in light of this thread...'Bastards & Boneheads: Canada’s Glorious Leaders, Past and Present'

Peter_Fitz Tell me I didn't just waste a click on a tweet length article...

Peter_Fitz Just another conservative nut job the world didnt need

Peter_Fitz A brilliant navigator no doubt but plenty of evidence to suggest he was a psychopath.

Peter_Fitz He must be next for the interpretative historical comic book treatment. Sure the writers room are busily toiling away as we speak. Showbag Enterprises at work.

Dana_Adele I don't think it's particularly accurate to say it 'grants' shift workers 'more' sick leave. Aussie towns that face ‘critical’ deadlineParts of regional NSW could run out of water as early as November with data showing the worst-case scenario for the state if there’s no rain or government intervention. Build dams or stop immigration What's the government doing to fix it? Building more & more rail lines & roads & reaping the dollars from all those 'water licences' as if buying extra water can somehow replace what's used. GladysB & ScottMorrisonMP have to get priorities straight or we're fk'd. builddams Dams are a band aid fix and have a negative flow on effect into nature, are we really willing to sacrifice more forestry by drying it out to burn and destroying it to build these damns for human existence. Be cheaper to relocate towns in the long run.
