Big supermarkets hammer out compromise with government in an effort to keep food supplies flowing during the strict stage four COVID-19 lockdown

The big supermarkets have hammered out a compromise with the Victorian government in an effort to keep the state's food supplies flowing during the strict stage four COVID-19 lockdown.

He said the rules on supply chain workforces were aimed at driving down the number of people working at the distribution centres, making it harder for the virus to spread, while keeping supply chains running. He said he was concerned on a "number of levels" around critical supplies, particularly with food, and the knock-on effects for supply chains in other parts of the country.

During negotiations those outbreaks were cited by the government as the primary reason why the sites should not be given exemptions. Non-urgent repairs and stocktakes will cease, managers and support staff will switch to remote working and workers aged over 70 or with underlying health problems will be sent home.

Coles perhaps head office employees can take a 30% reduction. Given how much you over pay, this would put you at market rates of pay. Which would be fair, especially as Coles HO has only 50% of their staff who are competent.

Nearly 4 weeks ago a dumb arse like myself was predicting where we were heading with covid in Vic-why couldn’t the ‘smart’ people? Had action been sooner would we really be up shit creek right now? DanielAndrewsMP VictorianCHO

Andrews trying to imitate another Marxist hero of his Stalin? Creating another Holodomor.🙄

Am I the only one thinking about weed supplies?

They shouldn't have needed to 'hammer out compromise'. The Premier needs to remember that we need to eat. What a circus.

Fine as long as the MEAT WORKERS comply!!

Jim's Mowing workers are not cleared to breach health orders: Andrews | Sky News AustraliaPremier Daniel Andrews has declared Jim’s Mowing to be a non-essential service in response to the gardening business founder’s vow to keep on mowing amid Victoria’s stage four lockdown. \n\n“They are not permitted workers,” Mr Andrews said.\n\n“Unless of course they are providing emergency work. Lawns are not getting mowed, people are not getting haircuts, we are all making sacrifices. I'm not in anyway wanting to diminish the pain and challenge for that business and those workers.'\n\nPremier Andrews said if Jim’s Mowing founder Jim Penman breached health orders it would become a 'matter for Victoria Police'.\n\nMr Penman vowed to defy Victoria’s strict lockdown orders and keep his business running, telling his employees he would pay their fines if they were caught operating.\n\nMr Penman said it was unlikely however that it would come to fining as he claimed continuing to operate his business was not disobeying the law as the law itself remained unclear. \n\n“This is really tough and I take no pleasure in having to make these really difficult calls but if I don’t make this decisions we won’t drive down the number of people moving around the community and we won’t drive down the number of cases and indeed the number of people who are dying,” the Premier said. \n\n“Lawns are not getting mown, people are not getting haircuts, we are all making sacrifices.\n\nHe said the matter of responding to employees who continued to work would be left to Victoria Police. \n\n“Short of not following the advice of our experts this is the only option we have,” he said. \n Give the idiot some jail time. Oh, poo! Who still uses them? Overpriced and a terrible business model for franchisees unless they are ok with ripping people off....
