Prime Minister Scott Morrison says he's frustrated with the 16,000 Australians who decided to travel abroad despite strong advice not to, saying they were unlikely to 'find themselves high on the list' to return to the country.

16,000 Australians who decided to travel overseas in defiance of the highest level of government adviceThe Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade issued"do not travel" advice for every country in the world because of the coronavirus pandemic sweeping the globe.

"We can't afford that because if people behave like that, then we lose lives," he told 2GB radio on Friday. This Sikh community group is delivering free meals to Australians in isolation"Those who go overseas over this period, how they actually think they're going to get back now is going to be very difficult," he said.Mr Morrison said there was some exceptions among the 16,000 for people travelling for aid and scientific work.

PM should impose NO TRAVEL law not just advise(a mistake). That means all travels should go through govt check and be cancelled if not very necessary.

SBS Ummm, don't you control the borders? Can't you just ban Australians from leaving, in a crisis?

ScottMorrisonMP should’ve closed our national borders, nobody in, nobody out, essential travel and trade movement only, otherwise stop whinging about 16,000 Aussies not listening to you.

They probably flew out about the same time the PM was saying it was fine to go to the footy

Leave them there.

ScottMorrisonMP We don't expect a free ride home ! Or a bailout like the Airlines will probably recieve? From the taxpayer. Im in Thailand a normal route that a Australian Airlines flys , wer've been priced out of coming home . Had 4 cancelled flights with out any refunds.

Just need to lock them up on Christmas Island after they pay for their flights home

I know some of the arrogant ones, ive paid for this cruise, no one is stopping me from taking it..... help help aus govt rescue me from Peru (or where ever else).....

musicbriefplays Says the man who ran away from the bushfires...

Australians are bewildered and frustrated that a PM would travel abroad in the middle of a crisis.

In Taiwan, some ppl suggest that those who travel aboard against advice not to, will have to pay full costs of any medical consequences w. no costs covered by the NHS, as they're responsible for their own acts & shouldn't burden NHS.

these stupid travellers shpuld pay for their flights back and should pay for their quarantine. The govt should impose fines and jail for those who travelled without permission.

Poor pig🐽

The turd being all judgemental as usual

What an awsum PM we have. Lies just like Trump. Flight restrictions were implemented with 24 hrs notice. Many of thise Serling assistance were away well before that. Why pick on your own citizens like this?

Really. From the bloke who still let everyone know in uncertain terms it was still ok to go to the footy probably about the same time they left for travel...

Yes, well..... a good deal more Australians are frustrated with HIM.....

It is kind of an arrogant thing to do but I'm not sure we should abandon them.

If only we had some kind of political figure or authority who could stop all international departures during a state of national/global crisis 🤔

Fair enough too.

ScottMorrisonMP, maybe they promised their children a holiday? And they booked it well before the bushfires, whoops I mean the coronavirus crisis!!

Just wondering why they weren’t stopped? Why do we employ Border Force again?

Can't let your personal feelings dictate, besides, you said you were going to the footy around the same time a lot of people went

Mandatory 2 weeks isolation

Always with him the threats. never the nice.

Maybe if you had a backbone Scotty & actually stopped them from travelling. But fuck it, it’s in God’s hands now isn’t it?

Yeah, bit different when ScottyFromHillsong effed off to Hawaii in the midst of the bushfires wasn’t it? Aaah!! But he didn’t tell anybody did he?

What date range is he referring to? People have been on long vacations since January & February. From memory, the strict warnings from AU came only around March? I could be wrong.

Is he also upset about Lynne's photo from Manly beach this morning?

SBS Wow does this mean there is a list? So far Australia has evacuated no one. Now that we have a list can we please start rescuing our citizens left in third world countries. If he wants to be petty he can ban those 16000 from applying for rescue flights as his punishment to them.

Same bloke who stubbornly refused to ban travel from the USA? That (political) decision caused lot more cases. Surely thats frustrating and bewildering.....

Hypocrite

Why weren't they stopped?

He should've closed the borders. He didn't close them to prevent the virus getting here. Hasn't closed them since. But he really really cares about you ok.

And So am I Mr Prime Minister SO AM I

Leave them there

Middle class Lefties from Wentworth and Northern Beaches.

Perhaps ScottMorrisonMP could force travel companies and airlines to refund and cancel trips, and not be allowed to issue credit notes or cancellation charges

These people are obviously not very intelligent, didn’t quite understand the seriousness of all this or simply just didn’t care.....very sad on all counts. Our prime minister has been working so hard trying to help us all through this crisis and then has to deal with that. Shame

Good.

Gee. Maybe the string of confusing, contradictory ever changing messages he's been sending on a daily basis for months might have something to do with it.

ScottMorrisonMP AustralianGov should make these 16000 pay for all the isolation & medical bills, if they are found to have travelled unnecessarily.

Sadly these are the ones who call themselves Australians! They care less. And they are putting the entire nation at risk if they come back again. Either the Airports needs to be closed or revoke their citizenship and blacklist them.

Maybe if ScottMorrisonMP had dealt with the bushfires better, they would have had time to also breif the people on the information they had about COVID back in January, and we wouldn't be in this mess?

Was this around the time Scotty was planning on going to the NRL and after the Hillsong conference that occurred before new measures were put in place?

Government with a tenuous grasp on the truth can’t understand why Australians don’t trust them! When did they fly? What were the warnings at the time? I mean we were allowing flights from the US until 21 March! Herr Dutton was there on 7 March returned on 10 March! FFS!

You acted too late. Why you issued “no travel” too late. We flew in February please share what freaking warning you issued for ban - get your facts right before saying what comes to your head. You are PM behave like one not an idiot

Oh please .... another deflection stunt from Morrison! I guess someone is worried about the Ruby Princess fiasco 🤔🤔🤔

Wish reporters would stop asking questions that refer to what Trump says. The man is an idiot & a laughing stock

He was asleep at the wheel yet again

It is definitely frustrating people did not listen and off they went . Truly if they have the coronavirus then we are going to go back again for longer lockdown . We are all adults not kids and we should know better not to go oversees and show the good example to our kids

How did they get out?

ScottMorrisonMP PeterDutton_MP last time I looked, you controlled entry and exit from Australia! So, I'm guessing you are disappointed, yet again, with yourself and your government. Well, so am I. auspol COVID19

Keeping the schools open has sent the worst of mixed messages.

They should be billed for it. Bloody idiots

And I'm a bit frustrated too, with bullshitboy and his mates, rorting and taking from the people and lying about it

Hahahahahaha DidntGetAnInviteToTheHillsongJunketScotty ?

I think it might be something to do with being able to trust leadership after the shockers of the past. Otherwise, I cannot understand why they wouldn't trust his judgement

berating, again

But I would assume if they have ties to his party or his religious group they will all be fine. RubyPrincess

He shouldn’t have let them go. His soft stance is what led them to think it was ok. Remember him saying he was still going to the rugby. It’s mainly his fault for being weak.

ScottMorrisonMP how were they allowed to board a plane in the first place? Is this another snafu from or BorderFarce for failing to impose restrictions-this time ongoing? You & Peterdutton needs to add this to his list of “please explains”

Government doesn’t need to pay their isolation hotel bill like all other countries doing

He is FOS, there was NO warning for USA or the South Pacific! He knew about this pandemic, he knew about the dangers, he didn’t act! He allowed his ministers to interfere in the embankment of the passengers on the Ruby Princess! auspol

noisycupboard Well shit. Football, Hellsong...mixed fucking messages ffs

Article doesn't mention 'when' they issued the advice but any who left afterwards should not be helped to return at the taxpayers expense. The foolishness of some people is beyond belief. Covid_19australia auspol

Some people are away working off shore, literally unable to get home till their boat gets to shore somewhere and hopefully then get a flight back home. Would have been nice if the govt had put an advisory out to all companies to let their staff come home asap if they wished

makes it hard for the rest of us

And then these idiots will complain that the Gov doesn't look after them when they need to come back home. Simple, don't travel. Dopes.

SBS Asymptomatic people can also transmit the virus. Why does the government insist on not wearing masks?

Unless they left for compassionate, aide, medical or high priority business or diplomatic reasons they should also be made to foot their own cost, including the cost of quarantine on arrival.

SBS would be very surprised if large majority of them weren't scotty's quiet australians

SBS There are plenty who were overseas before the travel ban and who ended up stuck with no warning.

Wake up PM... They could not cancel because airlines and ship. Co. would not give any refund till they cancelled the service...Refunds will be nearly impossible to get back.✈🚢🇦🇺👎

Scott Morrison should have known better that he can veto their ability to travel. If the advice is to not go overseas then airports will need to question their travel purpose if it is really essential.

SBS They are idiots and bought it back

He has his point. These people are not helping the country in battling the virus, they are bringing the virus in to everyone here.

I think a travel ban would helped, would have ensured that people who paid for trips would be reimbursed. As it was, it was just advice, and the govt travel advice website was not always up to date, I think.

Lock them out for 50 years !

Yer how many are true Aussie ?

They can go to a special hotel made for idiots

Get them to pay there own way or stay put ..

You have no idea ScottyFromMktg the reasons people are travelling. Many have compassionate reasons.

With the travelers left in a position where they didn't want to throw away thousands on travel costs as insurance wasn't going to cover them as it was only advice.

Cheap package deals to Bali wait for no Australian

Yet he keeps schools open still for the community to get sick and doesn't close them to protect people - hmmm also kept Hillsong colour conference going and wanted to go to footy - pot calling kettle black much?

One way ticket to China

Why allowing them to leave?

Don’t let them go, closed boarder

Says the bloke who went to Hawaii during Australia’s worst bushfires.

they set sail knowing this risk. Leave them at the bottom of the list.

I'm frustrated with his reaction to the bushfires, but it's not as if I'm going to put a fatwa on him coming back from Hawaii

Just leave them there.

Good on him.

ScottMorrisonMP - Maybe he can navel-gaze for a moment to see why people aren’t listening to him... Maybe it has something to do with not believing anything he says because he has lied once too many times and now that he needs everyone to take notice, they’re not.

'Strong advice' Lib gov

Fully bill for hotel isolation fee might be the only solution to stop people continue travelling.

Should we not firstly identify why they flew. Then isolate those who did it for important reasons. And finally be only critical of the rest. Surely that's sensible?

Sign legal agreement before departure!

for those they will have to pay upfront if they need government help!

Oh dear Scotty - they were people amongst the entitled fools who voted for you

If you left for OS holiday in March, you’re a fool.

Any expenses incurred to help them to come back, please fully bill and invoice those selfish people.

Stupid is as stupid does, I guess.

Look who’s talking. The one that took off when the country was burning. ScottMorrisonMP scomo

Execution list? Re-education camp list? Santa’s list?

ScottMorrisonMP your doing a good job.. can't help stupid people!!

'high on the list' What list.
