Former Labor minister Stephen Conroy says Queensland Opposition Leader DebFrecklington has “trainwrecked” her campaign by heeding suggestions of the media and calling for borders to reopen.

Former Labor minister Stephen Conroy says Queensland Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington has “trainwrecked” her campaign by heeding suggestions of the media and calling for borders to reopen. “At a time like this the public wants solutions, they don’t want grandstanding politicians scoring points,” he said.

Mr Conroy said he would urge state oppositions not to take the advice from “Sydney-based media people”. “This trainwreck that has been caused by the Queensland opposition leader to her own chances in a Queensland election by following the Sydney media demanding the borders be opened,” he told Sky News. He also pointed to Western Australia Opposition Leader Liza Harvey who railed against the Labor government’s hard border closure. “She was going to lose her job”.
