Premier Gladys Berejiklian says “part” of the reason masks have been mandated outdoors for the eight LGAs of concern is it “makes it easier for police to enforce” compliance.

The eight LGAs of concern include Parramatta, Campbelltown, Georges River, Fairfield, Canterbury-Bankstown, Liverpool, Cumberland and Blacktown.“We’ve had thousands of police out in force already, working with the community and that will continue.

“There will be extra emphasis on compliance. Police were providing updates that anecdotally; people were using the excuse of exercising … or doing other activity within 10km to get around or breach the health orders.“So part of the reason is to firstly by reducing the radius to 5km within those areas of concern, it gives police greater ability to do their job.

“It also provides opportunity for police to ensure that everybody is wearing a mask … around other people.”
