NSW Police have been handed greater powers against those not complying with COVID-19 rules as they grapple with Sydney's exploding outbreak.

The state recorded a horror 239 cases on Thursday - a record number - as people have continued to flout lockdown rules.

"As a result of feedback from NSW Police on the ground and community complaints around non-compliance, I sought additional powers from the NSW Premier this week," Commissioner Fuller said on Thursday."The powers particularly will focus on those people who are not doing the right thing. The power for me to close premises and public places will focus on the businesses who are doing the wrong thing.

"These powers, these health orders, these restrictions are something that the Government cannot get rid of quick enough. "But it's quite clear from the overwhelming number of people that are doing the right thing, that same overwhelming number of people have had a gutful of their fellow residents doing the wrong thing and that's evident by the fact that we are now getting tens of thousands of people reporting breaches through Crime Stoppers."

“The time for warnings is over. I know 99 per cent of the population are furious with the minority who continue to disregard the health orders and put the safety and livelihoods of families at risk,” Mr Elliott said in a statement.

Please don't give me hard luck stories of people stuck there. It sucks but it's better than the whole of Victoria copping a spike. On July 11 the VIC government had been telling people not to travel to NSW for weeks. You take a gamble, you might lose. Has he thought about making a donation to VictorianLabor ?
