The Melbourne father is waiting on the border but says he's been met with silence from the Victorian government after seeking approval to come home.

When photographer Lachlan Moore was offered a two week contract for work in Sydney, he jumped at the chance.Four NSW government areas have been dropped from the travel bubbleFully vaccinated and with all the necessary paperwork, the Phillip Island father of two set off in his car for Sydney, arriving on July 11 as coronavirus cases in New South Wales spiked to 116."I got tested every single day. There were COVID officers on site everyday," he said.

"I just got an email saying, 'Our hands are tied, it's not something we have jurisdiction over. You're just going to have to wait and see what happens'," Mr Moore said. Only compassionate reasons such as attending a funeral or end of life event, the caring of a pet or emergency relocation are listed as approved conditions for interstate travel.

"There's no recourse, there's no accountability. I wasn't given a reference number, I wasn't given a timeframe outside a couple of days," he said. The timeframe for Victoria's border restrictions with NSW remains unclear, with Premier Daniel Andrews this week doubling down on his hardline stance regarding interstate travel.

Why is the border to SA from Vic a res zone still. Makes no sense that one.

Travel ban and Hard border: villager style solutions to a world size issue.

He was caught in a backdated notice. He took the risk, it didn’t pay off. Lots of us in that position. Having said that, fully vaxed, negative test, willing to home isolate for two weeks. This should be the cautious first first steps to freer movement across state AND nat borders

Whether you agree with the border closures or not, everyone in Vic was well aware of the worsening position in NSW by the time this man left for Syd. He knew the risk he was taking & still chose to go so he needs to live with that decision

Lachlan, must be sad, frustrating and anxious. He needs to earn, but warnings issued for weeks, then told border WILL close. Vaccinations reduces the risk to the individual, but not to others, any test is as at that time. Decisions impact someone. To Lachy hope you get home soon

Wow

How long will it take for ppl not to trust gov

I have no symptoms is that a symptom

Just find a way to sneak through. Not every road between NSW and Vic is closed or has checkpoints…

Too bad. So sad.

abcNews Why isnt the Federal /state government mandating Everyone thats been vacinated will get a stamp on their passport and drivers license ... this is the only way to get back to ANY NORMALITY

Lockdown means lockdown...

There was plenty of warnings to return to Vic, and why did you even go there at that time, you would have known the risk of not being able to return.

We aren’t one country, we don’t have States, we have fiefdoms. And it’s never ok to prevent people from their homes. Particularly if they have regularly tested negative and are fully vaccinated.

So what follow the rules

An arrival by flight will be sent to hotel quarantine but entry by land not allowed. A bit like our asylum seekers crisis eh. those who come by flight will be considered but boat people off to offshore centres. Human rights have condemned offshore centres so how legal is this?

Shocking.we criticise Feds for not bringing home stranded Aussies from overseas but here's an Aussie in Australia locked out from returning home.all because he didnt return when Commander Jerome instructed so.and most think that is acceptable. that he deserves it.Aussie spirit

I think there was heaps of advice to get back to Victoria prior to the border closing.

A 'photography' job. Pretty sure that's surfboard you're learning on.....

Looks like he has found accommodation...

Ausshot3Dave Follow the rules Lachlan They actually apply to you as well as everyone else abc730

Boring

Hey all sheep 🐑 go get the vax and you’ll get your freedom back! All of us who aren’t LAB RATS are so jealous you don’t have to isolate, wear masks or socially distance 😂 when you become infertile or drop dead and they say its from the wuflu everyone will remember you as a %

A 12 year old could see the writing on the wall, the gov gave plenty of warning. Its not right but cmon. like saying ‘I had a hammer in my dad told me if it hit my thumb it would hurt - what would he know’. *hits thumb with hammer* triggered outrage

Good to see abc focusing on some of the lunacy of the covid regime

Victorians were warned the borders were closing. I feel sorry that this man is stuck in NSW but he made the choice to go to Sydney or wherever, despite knowing he would likely be locked out of his home state.

He’s in Lachdown

I understand that Lachlan was warned about closure, took a risk and lost. I understand, 'fully vaccinated', isn't a passport because vaccination doesn't fully prevent transmission. I don't understand why someone who tests NEGATIVE is denied entry. Are the tests no good?

Boo fk hoo ABC

Poor Lachy, didn't listen to the Victorian Government's warnings that the Border was CLOSING and suffers the consequences. My recollection is that there was at least 3 days notice and it was clearly said that there after NO ONE would be allowed back in until further notice.

Poor Lachlan. If only someone had warned him a month ago to come home... oh. Wait.

So ABC news commit…. a) Do you think Lachlan and only Lachlan is allowed to return? b) Do you think Lachlan and the numerous people in a similar situation should be allowed to return. c) all people with a story should be allowed to return? Your Answer: ? Not easy is it!

Better luck next time..

So what, he knew the situation

Not a lot of sympathy.

Ah well!!!

Lachlan who Is this someone important If he joins us with Albanese and Co, you don't need to Quarantine. Other than that its Quarantine.

Who gives .. he shoulda come back beforehand. Everyone thinks they're a special case. That's the problem.

So, he drove into a hotspot and now wants to come back. Where the hellhas he been for the last month. Diddums. Suck it up Princess. Hope it was a financially rewarding job. 🤬😡🤬

Oh well.

So you still chose to go even though NSW already had 116 cases and the likelihood a lockdown either within NSW or other states was on the cards. Well more fool you. I cancelled a trip around that time cos even a blind person could see what was about to happen

Huh?

So what, a lot of people are vaccinated and still spread it around.

Anyone else over these stories 🙄

If only Lachlan had a full month's notice that the border was going to close.

Victorians in NSW were warned long before he tried to come home that the restrictions were changing.

As he should be Australia is closed

thanksgladys

And? I’m also fully vaccinated, I don’t expect special treatment…. He knew the risks, he took a chance, it failed ….. He had plenty of warning …..

Fully vaccinated should be allowed to travel.

He had been warned . He isn’t special

When you deal with idiots, expect idiot replies if any.

And Has he been living in a cave with a lack of information

Being vaccinated does not mean you can’t pass on Delta-it means you won’t die from getting Delta. In the absence of proper quarantine facilities he needs to stay where he is.

Just not good enough

Because nothing will save you from lockdowns now. 5th lockdown will be the 15th before you know it. None thought there would be 5 at the first one. But we banned you right to political protest and changed the law to keep you in lockdown. Sees legit in a democracy. LOL

Yes that needs to be addressed at National Cabinet.

Ignorance is no excuse. Even some people in Sydney were hoping to go on vacation to other states until a couple of weeks ago, during a pandemic and uncertainty about border closures. Plenty of things he can photograph at the border.

And? He knew a week ago that they'd changed the rules.

A little bit of thought and listening to televised advice would have meant he wouldn't be in this position. He traveled to Sydney against advice.

you can still spread covid if you're vaccinated so

Hey how about instead of feel bad/good pieces about people like this you actually do some proper work. God knows we need some actual journalism right now in this country.

WinStupidPrizes

Is it possible that he is testing for COVID because he is vaccinated?

Please don't give me hard luck stories of people stuck there. It sucks but it's better than the whole of Victoria copping a spike.

On July 11 the VIC government had been telling people not to travel to NSW for weeks. You take a gamble, you might lose.

Has he thought about making a donation to VictorianLabor ?

NSW records two more COVID-19 related deathsThe death toll from Sydney's latest COVID-19 outbreak has risen to 10 after two further deaths were reported on Monday afternoon. yes horrible for those familes but both elderly. NSW lost nearly 300 people to road trauma alone last yr My guess is not vaccinated. Covid kills the unvaccinated. How many deaths are acceptable? Before Covid it was the flu pneumonia bronchitis upper respiratory infections and sinus infections and unfortunately if you are elderly or have a compromised immune system it can be dangerous.
