Sky News Political Editor aclennell says if the Michael Gunner government wins the NT election this weekend, it will embolden other states and territories to continue with border closures.

Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says if the Michael Gunner government wins the NT election this weekend, it will embolden other states and territories to continue with border closures. The Northern Territory acted quickly to close its borders to other jurisdictions.

The Gunner Labor government will go into the election with 16 out of the 25 seats in parliament. Queensland, which has also been strong on borders, has an election on October 31. “If he falls short, there will be less inclination towards that,” Mr Clennell said. “This election has a lot of implications for the future of the country, around those border closures. “It really is important.”
