NZ election delayed until Oct 17 | Sky News AustraliaNew Zealand’s election has been delayed by four weeks as the country sees a resurgence in the number of coronavirus cases after previously reporting to have eradicated the virus.\n\nPrime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced today the election, set for September 19, would be rescheduled and held on October 17. \n\nThe nation will remain in lockdown for an additional 12 days as the country recorded a total of 30 local cases. \n\nShe said while there was no guarantee the nation would be subject to level two and level three restrictions in September, the safety of voters needed to be the top priority. \n\n“It is clear that the re-emergence of COVID in Auckland at the beginning of the formal campaign period has been cause for concern,” Ms Ardern said. \n\n“While the electoral commission’s primary consideration is the delivery of a safe, accessible and credible election there are other factors that I believe also need to be considered.\n\n“These include the participation of voters and the ability of the electoral commission to reassure them that measures are in place to allow them to participate safely in the community.”\n\nThe Prime Minister said it was also necessary that all parties be given an opportunity to properly campaign and acknowledged the “the need for an election to be held in a timely way”. \n\n“moving an election fate, especially this late in the election cycle, is a significant decision, In the end what matters most is what is in the best interests of voters in our democracy,” she said. \n\nImage: Getty And yet all the media has been portraying the New Zealand leader as some sort of goddess, and yet now shes had to delay an election because of a few cases? Jacinda I will be labeled a hero for doing this and Trump will be labeled a bad guy if he does it. Wtf, they send referendums to their citizens in Australia for postal ballot, how is this different? Just imagine if Trump did this....

Tech behemoth Google launches bizarre attack on Aussie ‘big news’ | Sky News AustraliaTech giant Google is fighting back against the ACCC’s mandatory news bargaining legislation – warning Australians the changes would put the way Aussies use Google “at risk”.\n\nIn an extraordinary open letter posted to the front page of Google – the United States company declared the Australian government was making “enormous and unreasonable demands”.\n\nThe tech behemoth – which earned $US160 billion revenue in 2019 – also described Australia’s struggling news sector as “big news” in a bid to convince Australians to back Google.\n\n“We need to let you know about new Government regulation that will hurt how Australians use Google Search and YouTube,” Google wrote.\n\n“A proposed law, the News media Bargaining Code, would force us to provide you with a dramatically worse Google Search and YouTube, could lead to your data being handed over to big news businesses, and would put the free services you use at risk in Australia.”\n\nGoogle alone has ripped hundreds and millions of dollars from Australian media companies in recent years and earned $4.3 billion in Australian advertising revenue in 2019.\n\nThe ACCC draft mandatory code-of-conduct would leave Facebook and Google vulnerable to losing 10 per cent of their Australian turnover if they refuse to fairly pay for news.\n\nWhen the draft code was announced in late July, Treasurer Josh Frydenberg said tech giants Google and Facebook had not made adequate progress towards paying companies for original journalism.\n\n “The influence of these digital platforms, namely Google and Facebook, has grown and our regulatory framework has not kept up and as result there is a very unequal bargaining position between Australian news media businesses that produce original content and the digital platforms,” Mr Frydenberg said.\n\n“We as a government tasked the ACCC to undertake a detailed world leading study which they did over a period of 18-months and their recommendation was for a code to govern those relationships between those Google has been screwing Australia for decades like they have with every other country out there Rupert vs google?
