A majority of Australians accept the case for net zero emissions by 2050 to prevent a greater danger from global warming. Prime Minister Scott Morrison accepts it. So does a majority of federal cabinet | OPINION emissions COP26

Joyce, however, cements the message to voters that he took this policy through his party room to solve a political problem for the government rather than to address a personal conviction on climate.Alex Ellinghausen

The process was a reversal of the old way of doing things – like the approach in 2008 when Labor released a report by economist Ross Garnaut to guide government policy and debate in Parliament. This time it was about a staged policy shift, with an emphasis on the staging. The Nationals had to have their moment. They had to have an agonising process so their regional voters would see Joyce gaining concessions from Morrison.

A lot, but not all. The cost of this political game was real. The net zero target will be set. But Joyce stopped Morrison making a formal pledge to make deeper cuts to emissions by 2030. He did this even though the Prime Minister was within reach of a stronger 2030 target after months of pressure from United States President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

When is going to stop being the mouthpiece for the LNP party of corruption and lies !

Get rid of bananabe juice forever Please

Perhaps it is time for politicians to start representing their electorate rather than themselves or their party.

Do they realise the higher cost of living?

LNP dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century. Their inaction, their lack of transparency, their failure to deliver on a single promise and their sheer incompetence is only outweighed by their corruption. There’s nothing defining about this moment: they’ve had years.

Tony Abbott committed to net zero at Paris? What changed?

🙄 Having contributed to the ridiculous LNP climate wars over the years Scott & Barnaby have now convinced you that they are believers ? Okay

Sick of this government. This is our country, our tax money, our lives you’re playing with. What is the plan and the secret deal that allowed the Nationals to accept zero emissions?

LOL After 11 years in Government, LiberalAus and The_Nationals have been dragged to this point. And special thanks goes to Australia’s very own knuckle dragger HonTonyAbbott and his ‘Ditch the Witch’ campaign.
