Nationals MPs have backed a federal government plan to cut greenhouse gas emissions to net zero levels by 2050 in a step that clears the way for Prime Minister Scott Morrison to make the formal pledge at the Glasgow climate summit next week.
“The easy decision would be to say no and join other people in screaming and yelling from the sidelines, having absolutely no influence on where the decisions went,” he told the media shortly before 6pm on Sunday. But he did not state his own position on net zero emissions, saying he had argued that the outcome was a matter for the Nationals party room rather than its leaders.
While some of his colleagues had suggested things could get ugly, Mr Littleproud downplayed the possibility of a split. NSW Treasurer Matt Kean – who in September committed the state to halving its emissions by 2030 – said he wanted Mr Morrison to take a net zero 2050 commitment and a higher 2030 target to the UN summit in Glasgow.
If the Nationals wouldn’t get on board with that, “they can resign from the ministry and support a Liberal government [or] they can resign from the ministry and support a Labor government,” he said.“It’s as if the federal government’s isolated from the shift that’s happened, the shift from the business community, the shift from farmers, the shift from state and territory governments,” he said.
So - The deal reached by Morrison & Joyce on climate targets net zero by 2050 was for loads of tax money the Nats can use as they please, including financing coal & gas? And this is supposed to reach a net zero? - To reach net zero emissions by 2050, will need no more fossil fuel
They have backed nothing according to King Weasel. They support a process to go TOWARD zero. Their commitment to Australia is .0001% reduction. Hopefully this the end of National Party 'We are in support of a process going forward that would go towards a 2050 emissions target,'

Yeah but the main focus of the Glasgow summit is reducing carbon emissions in the short term, i.e. 2030. Net Zero by 2050 is kind of ... nice but not the main dish.
