Nationals back net zero by 2050 climate target with safeguards

Prime Minister Scott Morrison will take a net zero by 2050 target to the Glasgow climate talks.

"The position regional people are in now is better than the terms and the process that was initially delivered to us," he said after a partyroom meeting in Canberra which lasted just over two hours."Obviously that depends upon what we see in the cabinet submission reflecting the conversations and agreements between myself and the prime minister."

"Heroics that have no outcome, heroics that leave nothing but a rhetorical flourish - but leave the person who is hurting in the same position as what they were - is not an outcome the Nationals party room supported." Mr Joyce acknowledged many Nationals supporters held a different position and continued to have concerns about the target.

"The technology roadmap that Angus Taylor has put together gives us comfort around where that can take us and particularly around protecting existing jobs and how that technology can grow regional jobs," he said.

Only an Idiot would report the story like this which is the outcome the Coalition wanted. 'Process' in no way signals the Govt has any legitimate means of obtaining nett zero by 2050. It pays to see the contents of any agreement before announcing one lest you're left in the shit

It would be infinitely preferable if the Morrison Government could come up with a planet friendly plan - not a pals friendly plan - a plan that pleased scientists and both sides of parliament. You know, something to restore Australias credibility and a future for those under 40.

Australians are very used to Scott Morrison announcements that lack any substance at all. But the world is not. The world is acutely aware Australia recently directly lied to & completely ripped off France. No one is going to believe them without detail, without evidence. No one.
