Breaking | After a week of negotiations, Nationals leader and Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce told Prime Minister Scott Morrison of the outcome shortly after a meeting of the Nationals party room ended on Sunday.

Nationals MPs have backed a federal government plan to cut greenhouse gas emissions to net zero levels by 2050 in a step that clears the way for Prime Minister Scott Morrison to make the formal pledge at the Glasgow climate summit next week.

“The easy decision would be to say no and join other people in screaming and yelling from the sidelines, having absolutely no influence on where the decisions went,” he told the media shortly before 6pm on Sunday. But he did not state his own position on net zero emissions, saying he had argued that the outcome was a matter for the Nationals party room rather than its leaders.

While some of his colleagues had suggested things could get ugly, Mr Littleproud downplayed the possibility of a split. NSW Treasurer Matt Kean – who in September committed the state to halving its emissions by 2030 – said he wanted Mr Morrison to take a net zero 2050 commitment and a higher 2030 target to the UN summit in Glasgow.

If the Nationals wouldn’t get on board with that, “they can resign from the ministry and support a Liberal government [or] they can resign from the ministry and support a Labor government,” he said.“It’s as if the federal government’s isolated from the shift that’s happened, the shift from the business community, the shift from farmers, the shift from state and territory governments,” he said.

Well great picture of 5 idiots that have never done a hard days work in their life and you want to write a story about them . Ask Barnaby is he sober or just stupid would be a great start….🤣🤣🤣

Some COWBOYS in that group.

They all had to bend over!

There is the brains trust right there. It’s horrifying that Barnaby is 2nd in charge of the government of this country. The nationals are a laughable disgrace.

Ffs.

Everything proceeding according to the script. Can't wait to see the journalistic drivel that portrays Morrison as a crusader for climate action and Joyce as the man who fought to save the bush.

y depend on them?....

Do we believe the nationals have looked after regional Australia in there secret list of demands. Or just satisfied the mining companies who pay their way

“In principle” = “agreed to process” = “notional”

No... agreed to a 'process' based on a secret list of demands

An agreement that will prove worthless . You can bet they will NOT honor it .

I wonder if it would be possible for the rest of the world to postpone the climate summit until next year. By that time it is possible that we could have a government that doesn't have a tail that wags it.

Born again believers.. rightyooo..and what is there price for their automated mining masters? The Nationals don't serve regional communities. Fighting real hard to save jobs in health and education in regions. Let alone what farms rely on.. the environment. AlboForPM auspol

Is that what they did, because I am honestly not sure

That’s not what they said?

Pull the other one. Nats and ScuMo for that matter, have no intention of sticking to any announcement, it’s just window dressing for COP26.

There wasn’t any doubts! They are all budding actors putting on a show, they just want to be celebrities! Don’t you just love them! NOT! Net zero by 2050 is not acceptable without a serious concrete plan to halve emissions by 2030. Australia has no credible plan to reduce emissions quickly and at COP26 the world will point that out. auspol ClimateEmergency “Agreed to a process” not “agreed to support”. After almost 8 years and 2 Sundays the Nats have agreed to joint the LP and do nothing on climate change. Well done ScottMorrisonMP .
