This suggestion to protect the vulnerable is very easy to say, but the specifics are a lot more challenging. In fact, they are impossible. | COMMENT

Some journalists and politicians have been saying that we just need to let the virus run and only worry about protecting the elderly or vulnerable. Given that would mean a lot more community infections – limited, it is hoped, to those at lower risk of death or severe infection – let’s look at what it would take to try to protect those who need protecting.

They would need to avoid public places such as supermarkets, shopping centres, parties, restaurants, bars or cinemas. And if they have children who are back at school, they would have to avoid all contact with them too. In fact, they would have to avoid contact with anyone who is going out into public areas that would lead to potential exposure.Perhaps it would be necessary for them to live on-site at the aged care facility to minimise the danger of the virus being introduced.

Particularly in the Victorian hospitals that have been dealing with this, many healthcare workers are already exhausted, made worse by having colleagues on enforced leave because of either being infected or needing to be in quarantine after being exposed.

This is what I tweeted first time I joined Twitter

Sweden not top for deaths, & sinking as we go. Peru, uk, Spain, Italy to mention some are above & they locked down. Look to the locations that protected vulnerable well (ie malmo sweden) & do that. Lockdown or not virus goes until it burns out at 20%, when it runs out of hosts

Countries/cities are reaching herd immunity regardless of lockdown, & its the only thing that stops the virus. Some protected vulnerable, others no. We know lockdown =/= fewer covid deaths. It does draw it out until herd immunity (20%infection). Only then does the virus burns out

Yep, he's spot on.

Virginia Trioli this morning interviewed an expert who said the solution was getting worlds best PPE into health care as the current PPE was inadequate. Another case of governments one size fits all approach spreading itself too thin and distracting it from the priorities.

any worse / harder than a lock down annihilating the economy ?

Countries such as China and Singapore were able to stop their healthcare workers getting infected by using proper ppe and processes so if we did it properly here we wouldn't have the problems we do.

Died with covid & died from covid are totally different, how many have actually died from covid? The CHO said Wednesday; “Anyone who’s a confirmed case who dies is classified amongst the deaths, so it doesn’t have to be definitely from coronavirus,”

Just keep us locked down and indoors permanently. We could virtually eliminate the flu, car accidents, skin cancer.

Spot on. We don't actually know who's vulnerable either. Given a few people in their 20s and 30s have died and many overseas.

Let the virus run but protect the vulnerable? Easier said than doneA Melbourne-based infectious diseases physician examines what it would take if we only worried about protecting the elderly or vulnerable from COVID-19 | OPINION Why Hydroxychloroquine can save life? Why none of the CCP officers gets the virus? Because they used Hydroxy chloroquine in December 2019 and controlled all the media and WHO to lie to the world saying Hydroxy is no use at all. With Corona everything is easier said than done, so let’s just choose the option that allows us to keep living, and doesn’t kill livelihoods and devastate our cities and mental health! COVID19 Another BS scare mongering article. Why can't PPE be inplace with appropriate protocols for hygiene? The aged care residents that copped this virus were let down severely by poor protocols, not by a virus that eats through plastic.
