The contentious medevac bill has been repealed in the Senate after the government secured the support of key crossbench senator JacquiLambie.

The contentious medevac bill has been repealed in the Senate after the government secured the support of key crossbench senator Jacqui Lambie. The Tasmanian senator choked back tears on Wednesday as she said her decision to vote with the government was “a matter of conscience”. “I can’t let the boats start back up and I can’t let refugees die, whether it’s sinking into the ocean or waiting for a doctor,” she said.

Labor accused the government of entering into a secret deal with the crossbench senator to push the deal through; a suggestion Finance Minister Mathias Cormann rejected. “There is no secret deal, there is no secret,” he said. Mr Cormann’s rejection was contradicted when Senator Lambie told the Senate she successfully struck a deal with the government on a confidential national security matter.

Australia ‘is not obliged’ to provide a better life for boat people | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Peta Credlin says while it is understandable boat people, most of whom are economic migrants, want a better life, Australia is under “no obligation to give it to them”. \n\nMs Credlin said, “just like a sore that won’t heal… the medevac ramifications get worse each day these laws remain in place”.\n\nOn Monday, it was reported more than 20 refugees had been flown to Australia under the controversial medevac laws even though they were approved for relocation to the United States. \n\nAn Iranian man, accused of setting an accommodation block alight on Manus Island, will also be moved to the country on mental health grounds, according to The Australian newspaper. \n\nMs Credlin said it was critical to remember “that Labor is to blame” for this legislation and for “boat people” attempt to enter Australia.\n\n “Labor is soft on borders and will find almost any excuse to allow asylum seekers, even those proven not to be refugees, to come to Australia”. \n\nImage: News Corp Australia True. We want to defend the Australian worker and homeland Yup. Who listens to Credlin as many of us remember her and Abbott. What a disaster he turned out to be, even his own party booted him out.
