ABC chairwoman Ita Buttrose has lashed out at Communications Minister Paul Fletcher over the government's handling of its budget cuts and accused him of lying about the national broadcaster's efforts to collaborate with SBS.

Ms Buttrose said several media reports, which ABC management believes were informed by Mr Fletcher, had suggested the ABC "had neglected to 'collaborate more closely with SBS'".

A Peter Tonagh-led review of the public broadcasters was handed to the Morrison government in March last year, but its details were kept confidential as the ABC developed plans to cut costs.

What utter betrayal of your business acumen and experience, beholden to the Marxist cabal that runs the ABC. If you can’t give the Australian taxpayer value for money, resign.

D_Melissa2 Paul Fletcher still lying about funding ABC tonight on QandA. Using semantics to justify his lie. How pathetic!

MikeCarlton01 Well she took her time...guess she had to run the lashing script by ScottyfromMarketing

Bit late...

Neither a JOB-KEEPER OR A JOB-SEEKER,for there are no ‘productivity gains’ ,from this outlet.Use our scarce resources the DOLLAR ,for building ,public housing .

Digital in demand doesn't work outside of the cities. Doesn't help rural Australians in an emergency!

Too late Ita

Wrong, weak as per, she did no such thing, you excusalists

There is no funding cut that's the biggest fake news going around at the moment it's a funding freeze leran the difference.

Cmon Ita, politicians don’t lie!

She is a Trojan horse.

finally ? The delay is significant.

Looking for funds Ita, hit up your crooked drug dealing nephew for some. He made plenty adding to the misery of others Shit just like ABC...

The Chair you have when you're not having a Chair!

So she is happy with the budget cuts.

This sounds orchestrated.

Their on air presenters are paid commercial TV money. If they were all on the open market tomorrow who would be throwing money at them to join their network? They are all boring, inner city wankers with beige personalities.

MikeCarlton01 Oh for Christ’s sake all of you get off her back! What the hell are you keyboard warriors doing to save the ABC? Nothing!

MikeCarlton01 She lives!!!!

A so gentle a little tap on the wrist.

When the tax payer funded national broadcaster cuts jobs at a time of increasing unemployment it reflects the government’s position on economy over people, just saying

MikeCarlton01 Gibber, gibber, gibber!

Please .... she is one of them

Is she talking about this week’s cuts, or the one’s before, or the one’s before that ... ? The only effective response is for her to resign & call out the govt. over the ABC or whatever remains of it. Holding my breath - NOT.

MikeCarlton01 smh: 'The ABC announced a series of cuts...' scomo: 'There are no cuts to the ABC.' Those two statements cant both be true. Is Smoko trying to pull a trump here?

Time to put this old mare out to pasture. Blah blah blah . Who cares ! Average Australians couldn’t care less about the ABC.

MikeCarlton01 Faux outrage.

MikeCarlton01 Bit late Ita

The real issue is that the ABC doesn’t have to pay for itself where private media needs advertising. They know that the ABC is popular for all its content such as news and current affairs and supporting the arts in movies and series.

Now we have an eneamic, biased private media telling us what to think. Giving us sensationalistic stories about domestic violence, stabbings, shootings, paparazzi crap.

We used to have uni students protesting weekly about current issues that effected our nation. They told us what was going wrong with our society.

Oh! So nice to see Ita is now AWAKE. Geezes

billbowtell The Govt made clever move to base increased funding claim on ABC Management & Production, but ignored Transmission (TV, data, radio) where costs are spiraling upward. So truth is, ABC is going backward $10-$15 million per year. auspol

Americans have dumbed down their population through poor education systems and lost their manufacturing to China (sound similar)? Well the way we are following them we will be left with only a tourism industry, factory fodder or a banana republic. Is that what you want?

Murdoch and trump benefit both ways. Trump gets valuable favourable air and print space where Murdoch gets favourable business concessions and the first headlines. Is this what we want for Australia?

Murdoch is now an American and living in the White House with trump or should I say trump-plicans. Fox News there has divided a nation, are racist and only serve the 1% mega rich.

Murdoch owns newscorp/Fox news/sky news/channel 9 and 7, Sydney and Melbourne herald etc. has slowly eroded news standards in Australia for decades to what it is now. Murdoch only stands for one thing and is make money.

ABCaustralia has never once investigated Australia’s infectedbloodscandal despite pleas from victims. Thousands of Australian medical patients were infected with HIV and hepatitis C from contaminated blood and blood products and they have been abandoned by the ABCaustralia

DefundTheABC, it is taxfunded propaganda. The once hourabIe profession of journaIism is now dead in the grave. Then start cIeaning out the JournaIism facuIty in our universities, starting at the top.

Isn’t the budget actually INCREASING, just not as much as the ABC wanted? Surely ABC Management are the folks who decide what to spend money on?

YourABC has been running Leftist roughshod for too long and they still want more handouts. DefundTheABC PrivatiseABC SubscriptionServiceABC

Now Ita has joined in the lie. There have been no budget cuts merely a freeze that has applied to all Govt. departments. They are using this to excuse the failure of ABC Life and the public's lack of interest.

Is the destruction of the people’s channel, like the sexist male bishops who conspired to take Byzantine’s female empress?

Did someone push her out from the retirement home to comment on her boss.

It’s Time to retire. It’s Time to get some young blood in the Chairpersons position and on the board.

He ABC should just run Test Patterns for the next week. Give the LNP rabble something to bitch about.

This article is FakeNews. From ABCAustralia's own 2019 Annual Report it can be seen that whilst there was a $28M (2.6%) reduction between 2016/17, there have been increases in 'Revenue from Government' every year since. auspol ABCCuts

slsandpet C’mon Ita.. push harder

- she lives !!!!!! wherethebloodyhellhaveyoubeen ?

She is a puppet on a very handsome salary, she doesn't care one way or the other, as long as the money comes in she will have her head in the trough. I used to respect her when I was young, not anymore.

It was a fairly polite lashing out. The government fibs constantly.

So she's angry about the handling of the cuts more than the actual cuts?

I am struggling to comprehend this. So, Government funding hasn’t decreased yet the ABC’s budget is being cut? Doesn’t it mean that the ABC has made a mess of their funding allocations and/or is bloated somewhere. Where is the funding being allocated. Why is ABC not accountable?

Fletcher doesn’t make decisions. Buttrose needs to go after her maaate Morrison.

Glad to see Ita is more than a govnerment 'yeth-man' ;)

pepeMcGee Lashed out with a wet lettuce?

Oh there she is wheresita

About time.

LNP continually slash ABC budget and give Murdoch $885m in tax credits - they don’t give a stuff about regional Australia

If she stands by ABC staff, she will appear on the ABC, standing beside them, repeating her condemnation of the cuts and of Fletcher's lies Writing a stern letter to a person who she says lies and doesn't respond, is not going to cut it, or cut through auspol

'Oh no please don't [giggle] destroy us'. Pissweak leadership from this conservative sycophant at the end of her career.

jurylady5 The dismantling of the ABC is getting to the tipping point. Ita realises that she cannot save the ABC. And that as the current head she is being thrown under the bus.

MirabowMistress Good old Ita. A day late and a dollar short.

If you want your corrupt leftism truth hiding fake News pay for it yourself defundtheirabc

We want to see this on the front page every day until those LNP bastards increase ABC funding tenfold. All we care about is creating jobs! My arse. How many more sectors are you going to destroy ScottyFromMarketing?

SBS Viceland ? That’s a taxpayer funded tv station ? Has such great shows as - NITV, French, Croatin, Al Jazeera, Filipino etc news then just shit documentaries & Meet the Polygamists. Billion dollars gets us this ?

What is her role and function -ABC's board had asked her to 'convey its concerns' .....?

It’s never criticised the cuts and never criticised Morrison. She didn’t offer any explanation as to why the ABC is sacking it’s head of emergency broadcasting.

2 years of silence and after a public backlash Ita Buttrose tries to justify the executives being paid more than 70% more after it is all too late. Any other organisation would have fired her for not doing her job. AusPol TheirABC

Only a female can ‘lash’

ooh strongly worded letter ..go Ita

Ita has lost the plot

At Last, Ita Rose to the Occasion.

It's about time IDA SAID SOMETHING FOR THE ABC ,ITS A DISGRACE SHES THIER SPOKES PERSON AND THOSE EMPLOYEES HAVE BEEN WAITING FIR A RESPONSE AND THE RUMOURS OF WHY SHE HADNT WAS SHES A RWNJ DOING THE CALLING OF MORRISON AND THIS IS DOING IDA BUTTROSES REPUTATION PURE TOILET 🤮

The pox of the ABC auspol

How can Morrison say there are no cuts, when the budget papers show something else? liarfromtheshire

shhhhhhhhhhhhhh Ita you left wing fools get enough taxpayer cash auspol

Well get stuck into him then and demand that the budget be restored. I bet you don’t.

JaneCaro She speaks. Finally

So now she speaks. But not exactly a rally cry is it?

JaneCaro Too little too late Ita.

Ita Buttrose wouldn’t want her legacy to be that the ABC died on her watch ..she and the board must go in harder to bat for ourabc ‘s funding

The LNP have cut $800 million from the ABC in the last six years. A good percentage of that money has gone straight to Newscorp.

First time I’ve heard from Ita for a long time.

ABC ‘whinges’ We need more tax payer $$$ & claims there is no fat to cut at the ABC: WB

I cannot stand that my taxes are funding these leftst crapholes DefundABC DefundSBS

just sack all regional reporters n shut down offices in d bush then demand more money In this way Nats MPs would go nuts n they would restore funding LNP is outrageous they want regional reporters but they r butchering ABC budget

Just make the ABC subscriber only and not taxpayer funded and see how truly irrelevant they are. Why should I have to pay for their drivvle.

This is the mourning news: ABC's stupid decision to cut its vital organsOpinion: The latest round of cuts to ABC staff are a needless disaster, inflicted by a Coalition government seemingly unable to recognise the essential role of our public broadcaster | mattpeacock mattpeacock The essential role of a public broadcaster is to be completely & fundamentally unbiased in the way that they report, which in my opinion, they do not. mattpeacock No, they recognise it. As they say, facts have a left-leaning bias. The Coalition wants its voters as ill-informed as possible. mattpeacock I just feel like a propaganda outlet that incites race riots against Australians isn't essential.

ABC job cuts should be a lesson in balancing a budget | Sky News AustraliaHundreds of jobs will be axed from the ABC as its executive team – clearly stricken with arithmophobia – struggles to balance its measly $1.1 billion budget.\n\nABC Life has become the first casualty.\n\nYou might remember the lifestyle website cost taxpayers $3 million a year to run, and in return, produces articles about what might happen in a zombie apocalypse or how to cook tofu.\n\nThe website will be rebranded ABC Local and those journalists will be redeployed to doing real journalism instead of the aforementioned strange lifestyle pieces.\n\nStill, ABC Life editor Bhakthi Puvanenthiran appears defiant in the face of imminent change.\n\n“We are losing up to half the ABC Life team as we rebrand as ABC Local,” she wrote today.\n\n“It's devastating news and the details are unclear right now, but what I know for sure is I'm really proud of what we've built, telling diverse stories the ABC has never told before.”\n\nAnd despite the ABC putting out statements that the content would dramatically shift, she hopes to do the same sort of work with the new brand.\n\n“I hope we can keep doing that under a new banner but right now I am thinking of this incredible team of winners,” she said.\n\nWhile job losses in journalism are always sad and should never be celebrated the announcement by ABC Managing Editor David Anderson’s five-year plan is a step in the right direction.\n\nThe national broadcaster only spends 20 per cent of its budget on news right now.\n\nThat figure is disturbingly low when you consider what the core function of the ABC is supposed to be.\n\nThankfully the reforms will put an end to ABC Comedy and redirect resources back to news gathering and breaking.\n\nIronically, ABC Comedy, which has come under fire in the past for producing skits mocking religion, will be tasked with reporting on religious affairs and science.\n\nThe changes have certainly ruffled the feathers of Ultimo’s elite – who have been told may have to vacate their prime real estate.\n\n Houghtontweets Take some of the money from SBS budget, do we really need to see repeats of 'If you are the One' a Chinese dating show Houghtontweets Do they really get $1.1 billion? Worst of all from the pockets of people they hate so much and seek to destroy. That's incredible. Houghtontweets Hallelujah. The hive of Marxist idiocy gets a haircut

Up to 250 ABC jobs to go, programming axed, to deal with $84m budget cutThe national broadcaster will slash some jobs, rebrand ABC Life and move staff out of its Ultimo headquarters in Sydney as it grapples with a budget shortfall of $84 million.
