The ABC will reduce funding to factual programs and broadcast fewer hours of original television as part of a new plan to meet budget cuts.

Love on the Spectrum is a four-part documentary series that chronicles seven young adults on the autism spectrum as they take their first steps into the world of dating.

"It's extremely concerning these cuts are going to come from factual because it's one of the few places you can still pitch meaningful long-form programs," he said. ABC managing director David Anderson said the $5 million a year reduction would not impact shows already commissioned but will affect others in development.

Drama series, comedy, family and children's shows have been prioritised over factual because they are key drivers for video-on-demand globally, an ABC spokesman said.

So: no more stories on nudist skidmarks? NOOOOOOO! No more hit jobs on George Pell making dubious and far-fetched claims? NOOOOOOOO! War on waste: OK I'm with you there Cut Paul Barry's snide and wasteful dross

'reduce funding to factual programs' Shouldn't hurt, reporting facts is already an endangered activity at our ABC.

$336,000 each for 250 employees of ABC employee's FAT CAT SALARIES ($84,000,000÷250). Shows there is more that they can cut! The private sector who pays your wages is bleeding.

It's heart-warming to see how people are upset about ABC's budget cut.😂😂

...go on...

Cannot wait for the RUBBISH ABC to be dumped in the trash, never to be seen again

The ABCTV is in an abusive relationship with the LNP Government; no matter how much they try to change their looks, try to appease, try to break the cycle of death-by-1000-cuts there’s no escaping the onslaught of vicious smears, public humiliations and financial dependency.

Awesome. Hopefully more cuts coming, if not total abolishment.

If you can’t make $1.06b today and $1.07b next year work for ya then you’re wasting your money

The ratings speak for themselves, you whining losers. You can't attract more than a 15% share of the prime time audience. The vast majority of the country couldn't care less about the ABC.

If there was a real war on waste all but fire alerts and regional local news would go at the ABC

Keep going, keep going... 👏

Not enough. We wont rest until ALL ABC city operations cease. Regional ABC News & Weather is all we need.

Excellent and hopefully more to come.

War on Waste was by far one of the most eye opening shows on the ABC. It changed some of my purchasing habits. I hope when this disaster of a government is ousted, funding will be returned to all the amazing journalists at the ABC.

Oh and another suggestion.. get the f out of bed with farce book.

You need to axe Landline because all the hayseeds love it. Make them suffer the consequences of their electoral choices. Their squeals would be music to me.

It would be great if abc cut all the god loving crap out.

It doesn't matter. I'm sure there will be another program telling people how to suck eggs.

ABC has been wasting taxpayers money for years, welcome to real word where every business is effected by the state of the economy which worldwide has gone south. How many TV stations, media pages , radio stations etc does 1 broadcaster need?

ABC job cuts should be a lesson in balancing a budget | Sky News AustraliaHundreds of jobs will be axed from the ABC as its executive team – clearly stricken with arithmophobia – struggles to balance its measly $1.1 billion budget.\n\nABC Life has become the first casualty.\n\nYou might remember the lifestyle website cost taxpayers $3 million a year to run, and in return, produces articles about what might happen in a zombie apocalypse or how to cook tofu.\n\nThe website will be rebranded ABC Local and those journalists will be redeployed to doing real journalism instead of the aforementioned strange lifestyle pieces.\n\nStill, ABC Life editor Bhakthi Puvanenthiran appears defiant in the face of imminent change.\n\n“We are losing up to half the ABC Life team as we rebrand as ABC Local,” she wrote today.\n\n“It's devastating news and the details are unclear right now, but what I know for sure is I'm really proud of what we've built, telling diverse stories the ABC has never told before.”\n\nAnd despite the ABC putting out statements that the content would dramatically shift, she hopes to do the same sort of work with the new brand.\n\n“I hope we can keep doing that under a new banner but right now I am thinking of this incredible team of winners,” she said.\n\nWhile job losses in journalism are always sad and should never be celebrated the announcement by ABC Managing Editor David Anderson’s five-year plan is a step in the right direction.\n\nThe national broadcaster only spends 20 per cent of its budget on news right now.\n\nThat figure is disturbingly low when you consider what the core function of the ABC is supposed to be.\n\nThankfully the reforms will put an end to ABC Comedy and redirect resources back to news gathering and breaking.\n\nIronically, ABC Comedy, which has come under fire in the past for producing skits mocking religion, will be tasked with reporting on religious affairs and science.\n\nThe changes have certainly ruffled the feathers of Ultimo’s elite – who have been told may have to vacate their prime real estate.\n\n Houghtontweets Take some of the money from SBS budget, do we really need to see repeats of 'If you are the One' a Chinese dating show Houghtontweets Do they really get $1.1 billion? Worst of all from the pockets of people they hate so much and seek to destroy. That's incredible. Houghtontweets Hallelujah. The hive of Marxist idiocy gets a haircut

Triple that number and some improvements might actually occur... My opinion there are a few that should be learning to code. Especially when all they do is copy and paste articles. Isnt that right nickpearson87 Oh no , does that mean we won't get to see Yasmins show about the origins of silly Muslim hats?
