Nationals Senator mattjcan is calling on the Victorian government to reconsider its blanket approach to lockdowns “because they are suffocating country towns”.

Nationals Senator Matt Canavan is calling on the Victorian government to reconsider its blanket approach to lockdowns “because they are suffocating country towns”. “Many regional locations have zero cases and it doesn’t seem right to me that the same restrictions are applied to a country town as exist for a major city where there is an outbreak,” he told Sky News.

“We need to try and keep as many parts of the country going during this, so I think a much more targeted local approach would be better.” Senator Canavan said the Victorian government needed to try and save as many jobs and as much of the economy as possible “so we can all continue to pay for the assistance we need to provide for people who are unfortunately in the lockdown”.

mattjcan

mattjcan this was Dan's plan all along!

mattjcan Worse than that, they are destroying our country and all for 23 deaths (excl. aged-care facilities) in the whole of Melbourne & suburbs. Remove the military-style lockdown now !

mattjcan Unfortunately it’s not just regional businesses. All businesses are suffering. We either lift the restriction and live with the virus or we need to lockdown completely, the whole state. Just because regional Vic has no or less cases doesn’t mean the virus won’t spread.

mattjcan Andrews & his government along with all advisors should forgoe wages (no reimbursement ever) until such time as Stage 1 is achieved Without skin in the game they have no incentive to fix it

mattjcan All of this to cover his branch stacking scandal. Does anyone else remember that?

JoshFrydenberg rowandean 🤮 JoshFrydenberg rowandean I predict that the only way Australia can clean up after coronavirus is through some pretty drastic demand side economic policy. Lowering taxes and fiddling with interest rates is already a bust

Australians have been filled 'with fear and alarmism': Alan Jones | Sky News AustraliaThe consequences to be inflicted on the personal wellbeing of Australians, business viability, the national economy, and mental health are far beyond what could be described as responsible management of the situation says Sky News host Alan Jones. \n\n'The nation is swimming in debt, kids are out of school, people are locked up while all along the mental anguish of what is taking place is beyond calculation,' Mr Jones said. \n\nOn Monday, Premier Daniel Andrews detailed the “heartbreaking” lengths of his stage four lockdowns which will affect Metropolitan Melbourne for at least six weeks in a desperate bid to slow the spread of the killer coronavirus.\n\nMr Andrews ordered all non-essential workers not to leave their homes from Thursday but promised people they will not need to bulk buy food as supermarkets, grocery stores and pharmacies would stay open.\n\nThe tougher shutdown has come as the Andrews government has failed to slow the spread of the second wave of COVID-19 which has resulted in thousands of new cases and dozens of deaths.\n\nMr Jones said if lockdowns were the answer, why do deaths continue to escalate around the country. \n\nMr Jones discussed the issue with Garrick Professor of Law at the University of Queensland.\n\n Is going to reoort anything free of political bias or do it’s reporters lack the intellectual capability to see both sides of the coin and use logic/reason?
