The Coalition says Labor is exposing the Voice referendum to a misinformation campaign by scrapping laws requiring voters to be posted a pamphlet that outlines the arguments for the Yes and No cases. | LisaVisentin

The Coalition says Labor is exposing the Voice referendum to a misinformation campaign by scrapping laws requiring voters to be posted a pamphlet that outlines the arguments for the Yes and No cases.

“This is not about whether you vote yes or no,” Leeser said. “This is about ensuring the government provides information so that Australians can make an informed choice.“A successful referendum will only occur if the change is clearly explained, and there is transparency and detail.” “This information will provide voters with a good understanding of Australia’s Constitution, the referendum process and factual information about the referendum proposal,” Gorman said.

“Modern technology allows parliamentarians to express their views to voters directly and regularly through a wide range of sources, such as television, email, and social media that did not exist when the pamphlet was introduced in 1912.” the party would formally oppose the Voice, saying it wanted to empower Aboriginal people at a local level, “not create another layer of bureaucracy here in Canberra”.

LisaVisentin Hi Lisa, why did PatrickGormanMP go unchallenged in this article that states the reasons the pamphlets are being scrapped is to modernise the process & keep up with the digital age. Yet the ALP is bringing back the printed referendum pamphlet requirement in the next term?

LisaVisentin Hi Lisa, why does your article fail to inform readers that the legislative changes the ALP are ramming through parliament to scrap laws requiring the referendum pamphlet mailed to every voter is only a temporary change & only applies to this Voice referendum?

LisaVisentin JulianLeeser your constituents have been asking over and over and over again for a proper statement from you on this issue. Pretty pathetic that this distraction is all you can be bothered with.

LisaVisentin “Shadow attorney-general Julian Leeser said the proposed change would compromise the quality of public debate”. That’s laughable coming from the party that filibustered well into the night to stop the IR Bill being passed by the senate.

LisaVisentin Is this a bit like how Howard manipulated the referendum on a republic in 1999? Privilege of being in government

Coalition slams proposed changes to referendum rulesChanges Labor wants to make to scrap the “outdated” requirement for voters to be sent a pamphlet explaining the Yes and No case will open the door to misinformation, the Coalition says. LisaVisentin Of the voice gets knocked off it will be because the voters don’t trust politicians. Details later, sure thing! LisaVisentin The constitution is a rule book for governing. It serves all Australians equally. Singling out any group, no matter how well meaning, is repugnant. We have the same voice to parliament… one vote, one value. With the details hidden until after the vote, you’d be nuts to vote yes.
