The shadow energy minister unleashed on the government’s series of “manic thought bubbles” to solve Australia’s energy price crisis, slamming the “very divided” Cabinet as Australians suffer through surging bills.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Treasurer Jim Chalmers both committed to unveiling the government’s solution to rising prices after the budget showed the cost of electricity and gas would surge by more than 50 and 40 per cent over the next two years respectively.

“In relation to a cap, if one is introduced in NSW, the taxpayer of NSW would need to be compensated,” he added. The Cabinet is expected to formalise an approach at next week’s meeting, but the shadow minister said the government needed to address Australia’s gas supply shortage.
