Greens accuse Nationals of trying to ‘knock off’ Voice | LisaVisentin

The Coalition says Labor is exposing the Voice referendum to a misinformation campaign by scrapping laws requiring voters to be posted a pamphlet that outlines the arguments for the Yes and No cases.

“This is not about whether you vote yes or no,” Leeser said. “This is about ensuring the government provides information so that Australians can make an informed choice.“A successful referendum will only occur if the change is clearly explained, and there is transparency and detail.” “This information will provide voters with a good understanding of Australia’s Constitution, the referendum process and factual information about the referendum proposal,” Gorman said.

“Modern technology allows parliamentarians to express their views to voters directly and regularly through a wide range of sources, such as television, email, and social media that did not exist when the pamphlet was introduced in 1912.” the party would formally oppose the Voice, saying it wanted to empower Aboriginal people at a local level, “not create another layer of bureaucracy here in Canberra”.

LisaVisentin The constitution is a rule book for governing. It serves all Australians equally. Singling out any group, no matter how well meaning, is repugnant. We have the same voice to parliament… one vote, one value. With the details hidden until after the vote, you’d be nuts to vote yes.

LisaVisentin Of the voice gets knocked off it will be because the voters don’t trust politicians. Details later, sure thing!
