Jewish, Hindu and Islamic leaders in Australia say they would welcome the Oxford University coronavirus vaccine if it is successful, despite other religious leaders raising ethical concerns over the use of cell lines from an electively aborted fetus.

Catholic Archbishop of Sydney Anthony Fisher, Anglican Archbishop of Sydney Glenn Davies, and Greek Orthodox Archbishop Makarios have written to Prime Minister Scott Morrison, urging him to reconsider a deal to purchase 25 million doses of the vaccine.

But other senior religious leaders in Australia have told SBS News the risk to human life posed by the virus meant an effective vaccine would be welcomed. President of the Hindu Council of Australia, Prakash Mehta, also said Hindus would have"no problem" welcoming the vaccine if development was successful.

"The reality for the vaccines is that they need cell cultures in order for us to grow them," he said. "Human cells are a really important part of their development."

If the ones who don't want it on religious grounds then let them get sick and die. No great loss really.

Nobody needs their approval - if push comes to shovw they ll just get the vaccine

Anything to attack Christianity... right SBS...

When they say ‘elected abortions’ like elected makes the whole concept more palatable

I like logic and reason

No one cares whether they’re for it or against it. Each person has the right to choose whether they want to take a vaccine or not take it. If vaccines work, your vaccine will protect you and my lack of a vaccine won’t impact you at all.

Bahahahaha of course they do. The three most scientifically sophisticated religions as we all know.

The virus is gods will, I think religions leaders shouldn't be allowed vaccines and medicine at all and just submit to gods will. The rest of us will be taking the vaccine and thanking the scientists for making it and the government for paying for it.

These arseholes want money and power ..allways have , allways will..

While better, I'm not sure this helps yesterdays nonsense. Why are religious leaders getting involved at all?

Why the 'rush' for a vaccine for covid-19. More people die from flu and we have a vaccine for that. Abortion of babies is never acceptable.

I cannot believe the bishop admitted they put aborted foetal tissue in covid vaccines. And not to mandate them. Then they said they also put them in other vaccines for measles and mumps. I can believe they said that on mainstream. They also put monkey and cow DNA

Hahahaha! Don't have it. You'll meet sky-daddy faster lol 👌

At least some religions are being realistic.

Well I have some ethical concerns about the existence of the Catholic Church and I certainly don’t think they should be allowed near children

Why does SMS not want to bring up the FACT that Bill Gates and his foundation are behind the OXFORD U vaccine? He is a Eugenicist that want's to reduce the earths population by over a billion. And you want him to inject your children?

People are allowed to have ethical concerns & air them without being overly vilified in an open society. We do need 80% take-up so if they want to go first & lead the way Im all for it .

Well wisdom is important in Buddhism, so we would support it too BTW ... We view Jesus Christ as a fully enlightened being and have no doubt he would have supported it too

And who thought these would be the rational ones

Bull shit. Absolute bull shit. Fake News

Religion and ethics. Yeah. They can’t even get something they made up right

Ethical concerns from the Catholic and church of England churches make me laugh.

There is no vaccine. There are plenty of biotech stocks to pump and dump though.

Dept CMO downplays fears of using foetal cells in vaccine development | Sky News AustraliaThe Deputy Chief Medical Officer has downplayed religious concerns over the use of foetal cells in the development of a coronavirus vaccine. \n\nCatholic Archbishop Anthony Fisher expressed concerns over the Oxford University trial drug which uses embryonic stem cells in manufacturing.\n\nDr Nick Coatsworth reassured people of faith, however, saying researchers worked according to a high ethical standard. \n\n“The reality for vaccines is that they need cell cultures in order for us to grow them, the human cell is a really important part of their development,” he said.\n\n“There are strong ethical regulations surrounding the use of any human cell, particularly foetal human cells.” \n\nImage: AP\n\n Well did you expect him to be critical of it? That’s reserved for proven treatments that are cheap and already on the shelf. Better to push and defend something that’s not even developed yet. How do you ease fears of people who are opposed to being injected with aborted foetus cells ? I must admit it does not inspire me, to have the jab ! Darwin Theory it is then.

Archbishop says he would boycott Oxford vaccine developed using cells of aborted foetusReligious leaders write to Prime Minister Scott Morrison raising ethical questions about the potential vaccine being developed at Oxford University using cell lines from an electively aborted foetus. I always take notice of people with invisible, imaginary friends. The Catholics are at it again, ensuring that medieval practices trump science for the betterment of their fuckboy culture. *I’ll put $20 in the collection plate on my way out. Gotta draw a line on child abuse somewhere I guess.... if only they were as worried about children who have been born already
