Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has faced tough questions over when he knew he was going to break a key election promise and whether he lied to the Australian people.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has been grilled over his broken election promise and whether he lied to Australians about not changing stage three tax cuts , during a tense back and forth at the National Press Club . Mr Albanese addressed the National Press Club in Canberra on Thursday where he defended his changes to stage three tax cuts , after months of reaffirming they would remain untouched.

In a fiery question round, Mr Albanese was asked by News Corp Australia National Political Editor Clare Armstrong whether he knowingly lied last week by maintaining his support for the watered down stage three tax cuts
