Here's what each state and territory is doing to ensure people follow measures designed to slow the spread of coronavirus.

Western Australia is firmly in step with the Federal Government and is set to introduce $1,000 on-the-spot fines for individuals and $5,000 fines for businesses who disobey the new rules.

Chief Minister Michael Gunner says authorities will not strictly enforcing the new National Cabinet recommendationsMr Gunner said the current priorities for police were border control and spot checks on people undertaking self-isolation at home."If you don't, we'll move to enforcement on the two-[person limit]."The ACT has reiterated the Federal Government's guidelines about gatherings and staying home without outlining many of its own specific measures.

"We're in a slightly different situation to New South Wales — clearly in parts of New South Wales there is evidence of community transmission, so they've taken the decision to take this further," Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith said.

I suppose they’ll need some new prisoners to replace the ones they’re releasing early now. Fining a nation of people without jobs, that makes perfect sense. Next they’ll be announcing a billion dollar package to help people pay their social-distancing fines.

A warning for repeated grand theft auto, driving under the influence with a disqualified license ... but jail time for not follow laws(or are they rules?) that were put into place within the last week! Seems fair.

Human rights taken away in the blink of an eye

I think the Indian way is the best way to go...!!!

I would say a fine for gatherings and jail time for spitting at or abusing people or police.

I've been putting a few hours of overtime in on the heavy bag and the speed ball, I'll be implementing a jab, cross left hook, switch kick to the ribs combo if anyone is within 1.5 of me, unless a tidy bird.

I've always said if the words 'enforce', 'fines' and 'jail' had been used from the outset instead of 'advice' & 'suggestion', there is every probability the rate of spread would be far less. Too many are *knowingly* irresponsible so no excuses should apply.

Fines and jail. Too much tolerance for selfish stupidity.

Will these new powers be relinquished when this is all over?
