Police say the motive for the protest is unknown at this stage, however it is understood that it may be taxi related.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said that about 500 people had blockaded the road near the Durban train station and Stamford Hill Road with burning tyres. "The road is still closed, police are at the scene to monitor and stabilise the situation," said Gwala.
