Heartbreak and sorrow along with many unanswered questions filled the atmosphere at the home of 23-year-old Demisha Naik who was bludgeoned to death, allegedly at the hands of her boyfriend who then took his own life a few hours later,Several gender-based violence campaigns have fallen on deaf ears as more defenceless women in the community are subjected to abuse on a daily basis.Authorities outside the home of slain woman Denisha Naik.
Women’s rights activist and attorney Shabnam Palesa Mohamed commented on the matter and said Demisha’s murder was another tragic gender-based violence death in the country at the hands of a partner with “uncontrollable anger issues”. Provincial police spokesperson Lt Col Thulani Zwane confirmed the incident and said a case of murder was opened at Chatsworth SAPS after the victim was killed in her flat.
Lt Col Zwane said that on Wednesday at 11.45am, a 27-year-old male was found with a gunshot wound on a premises in Montford.Shiraz Adam was declared dead by paramedics on arrival.His father, Collin Munian, said: “It is a difficult time for us and we are mourning the loss of both youngsters. We have tried reaching out to Demisha’s parents and we will give them time to grieve. We are planning a meeting.
